Look I don't know where you get this idea that I think there is no wealth in Charlotte (actually I was really surprised at how much there was) and yes I know someone might have lots of money, but wouldn't someone who worked really hard want to keep a tight seal on their assets? And didn't I say 50k is more typical sounding unless it was say inherited or something? Yes, maybe she just really does have a lot of money but there is something about the placed getting burglarized that seems, I don't know, coincidental. Kind of like how these "jewelry dealers" down here that I mentioned back a few pages are getting robbed in dumpy motels, because they actually are doing something more fraudulent and they put their money into precious stones. Also in this burglary the person who owned the home was NOT careful with their assets just like the "jewelry brokers" down here. Robbers knew to attack those people down here, so why wouldn't a burglar in Charlotte want to target someone similar? I know a lot of money exists in those places but I know that if I worked hard for a living and bought that much jewelry I would at least get a safe. A typical semi-random (not really such thing as a random as there is typically a selection process) burglary in a neighborhood like that in the USA would yield big screen TVs, electronics, stray cash and smaller amounts of loose jewelry and a typical random robbery would yield someones wallet, keys and a few bucks in cash. But I still think it sounds like a POSSIBLE inside job. Or yes, it could just be a really irresponsible owner who thought nothing would happen to them and the burglar could have just scored lucky.
Whatever, agree to disagree and as of yet there is no way to tell what really happened so neither one of us win the argument here.

I got that notion because of statements like the one in this exact post of yours (see bold). Why should 50K be typical? Especially in the elite homes of Charlotte? She could have $500,000 worth of jewelry, so what? It doesn't have to be fishy. Who knows, maybe she has a son that saw a chance to get paid off and had a couple of his buddies do the job. It was an easy job for a reason because it was inside job, but that doesn't mean she was in on it.

Good point. But we don't know yet. Whatever, you win for now and if they do a news story and I'm wrong than I will buy you a Rolex lol jk. Actually I pretty much feel like an idiot because that does sound way more realistic...
did she really just have it out or in a jewelery box in a closet? I don't think the amount she had at home was odd..I mean it is her house she should be able to have it in her hosue..we do keep a lot of stuff in a safe but if you wear that stuff all the time putting it in a safe is annoying everyday.
I bet they knew her.
Yeah I agree, it is her house so if she wants to have that much jewelry in her closet that is her business. Yes, a safety deposit box would have been ideal but in the same sense, NO ONE DESERVES for this to happen to them. That is horrible that she lost a lot of jewelry from her mother that has passed on. That really is an aweful thing.

lol....it's not a contest. But anway, it's been healthy dialogue and no harm in that.
I didn't see the news item in total, was this owner an elderly lady? Some people just can't believe that "their" little world is changing so much. I have to agree with those who said not having a security system on and having it sitting in her bedroom were bad ideas, but as for having it in the house? While I don't have near the amount she had, I keep all my jewelry at home because I wear it daily; I never know what I'm going to wear until I see how the weather is and what I'm going to wear. Maybe for her, having a $20k piece was something she wanted available all the time. It's the crooks who are really to blame.
I don't know why people are making such a big deal about the value/cost of the jewelry, as if the lady had a jewelry store in her home. (Not people here- just with people I've herad discussing this, act like it's an ungodly, obscene amount of jewelry)......some of the jewelry was inherited....and if someone has been buying jewelry or receiving it as a gift from their husband for all the holidays mine gives me jewelry for (Christmas, Valentine's, birthday, Mother's Day, anniversary)- plus add in a wedding band and ring- it's very plausible for someone who enjoys fine jewelry to rack up that much. It's also possible for someone to spend that much on just a few pieces of jewelry. And then there's cash and credit and payment plans. It doesn't quantify the person's wealth (or lack thereof)...either way. It seems to me like some people (not here particularly) just have this attitude of "Anyone who has that much money to waste/blow on jewelry (instead of mortgage, food, college, charity etc) deserves this." I don't get that. IMO the lady didn't do anything stupid by having that much jewelry in her house...although again, I would have put it in a safe.
