Do you know how many basketball fans will show up to a Bobcats game only when the Knicks are in town? Just take a look at your TV during a regular game and a Knicks game.

The Bobcats are going to have to be willing to wait through generation after generation to flush out fans of the Hornets team to make the Bobcats name stick. Identity isn't everything but it's huge. You can't factor that out.

And to suggest that winning always equals fans in the seats, lol. Just ask the New Jersey Devils, who have won multiple Stanley Cups, dominated regular seasons, iced one of the greatest goaltenders EVER to play the game, and still came in 22nd out of a 30 team league in attendance this season. They were having that same issue in the middle of their late 90's dominance and the continue to have it, just in a smaller arena.

I don't know, man. At some point you have to start wondering... is it everyone else around here or is it you.
You couldn't have picked a better example, Brian. It's a North Jersey team & they gave it a South Jersey name. It's like they thought that people in South Jersey would be stupid enough to spend hours on the road to go to games, instead of going into Philly to see the Flyers, if they just named the team for the Jersey Devil.

7 wins... I'm sorry but you can't pull out attendance, enthusiasm etc when you have 7 wins and number 8 doesn't seem likely. The team is a joke right now.. they are awful. ...

I never said die hard NY or Boston fans to become season ticket holders but you will get them out to more games if Davis is swatting balls and running the floor to get alley-oops from Walker.

It won't take generations... all it takes is 1 guy. It's basketball and that's a sport where 1 guy can turn your whole franchise around.

I'm not saying Anthony Davis is Sidney Crosby/Cam Newton levels but if he lives up to the hype you will see attendance bounce back. It won't be like the 80's when the NBA was king but fans will come out to watch Davis play.

IMO, they should get rid of the Bobcats name. It was stupid in the first place and has nothing to do with Charlotte or the area.

IMO they also should not rename it to the Hornets. Hornets in this area is forever associated with George Shinn and I can't imagine why people would want to bring back that stigma to this team.

However, no matter what they call it, it won't change the real issues facing this team. Changing the name is the same as putting perfume on the pig.

Changing names but not changing to Hornets would be incredibly risky. Going back to Hornets makes the most sense because currently Charlotte Hornets merchandise is actually being sold in stores and is selling well -- not just in Charlotte, but nationwide. So there's already evidence that the Hornets brand is strong. Go with another name and you've totally ignored that tangible evidence.

Not one mention of the story regarding the Hornet/Bobcat name contraversy..

Even with Anthony Davis this team will still be pathetic. Kemba will be an average NBA player...definitely not worthy of being such a high draft pick. Jury still out on Biyombo. Who else do they have? Maggette and his rediculous salary? Definitely not much there for trade bait....

If he didn't think so 2 yrs ago, he's definitely got his work cut out for him now...

It will take time to rebuild. Even with Davis, the Bobcats will probably be a lottery team next year again (I believe this is what Jordan wants anyway). So if they're bad enough next year, then they can potentially get another solid player to pair with Davis and become a decent team within about 3 years.

The sad part is the Bobcats aren't even guaranteed the #1 pick.

The real sad part is had they kept Chandler and Wallace they would be in the playoffs.
