WOW...Dont want to get into a political conversation but it would be unfortunate if the only time that a Governor and a President/VP that are in opposite parties can get together is during a natural disaster where they trade hostage style videos of giving each other complements for doing their job (ie. working together to save/help people) is where we are now... SMH

I look forward to visiting the city again in the future. Hopefully, if we are moving to a new normal of remote working places like Birmingham can find a new niche as being places where people choose to reside.

Gov Ivey did support a $50M state allocation towards the construction of UAB's new Genomics Research Building. It's the largest investment in a single building on a college campus in state history.

The cost of living varies drastically across the United States, and it even varies when just comparing Alabama's cities and counties.

A recent study from SmartAsset measured places where the average living expenses are most affordable for residents. The study measured the cost of living relative to local income in each county, and two metro counties made the top 10 best places.

Jefferson County ranked among the places in Alabama where purchasing power was highest with money stretching residents the furthest. It was at No. 1 with 29.9% purchasing power. Jefferson County's cost of living totaled $41,461, and per capita income totaled $58,424.

Shelby County came in at third with 27.2% purchasing power. Its cost of living totaled $44,388, and per capita income totaled $59,588.

Another large Alabama metro city, Montgomery, ranked No. 5 on the list with 25.5% purchasing power. Montgomery's cost of living totaled $36,706, and per capita income totaled $47,776.

Coffee County ranked 10th last on the list with 23.8% purchasing power. Coffee County's cost of living totaled $35,915, and per capita income totaled $45,262.

Other counties on the top 10 included Madison, Houston, Limestone, Lowndes, Henry and Tallapoosa.

Always a great showcase for the city. Last night FOX had Birmingham on prime time for USFL and it was looking good on the national stage. Between these events and Talladega last weekend the city/metro is really making strides

There are a bunch of FOX and NBC production trucks/cameras that's been here since Feb. FOX and NFL is doing the hard knocks-like show United by Football weekly with behind the scene of the league/city. Both network airs city promo commercials on a loop. They are promo'ing the up coming World Games. Then CBS production trucks/crews coming in June. Other countries media crews will be here. Other U.S. cities media people will be here. Legion FC plays on ESPN+ weekly.

We'll also have the Regions golf tournament next week with a couple round on the Golf Channel and then the SEC baseball tournament at the end of the month on SEC Network/ESPN.

Planning and design for Re-Vision Linn Park is underway

Plans to revitalize Linn Park have officially begun as public and private partners of the Re-Vision Linn Park planning project met to begin the process of redeveloping the historic downtown park.

“The Re-Visioning project is uniting stakeholders in a process to refresh the park and to build a strategy around design, sustainability, and the park’s role in our city,” said REV Birmingham CEO, David Fleming.

The planning and design process is funded by philanthropic investments from The Friends of Linn Park and the Philip Morris Fund for Design Arts and the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham.

According to REV Birmingham, the eight-month development planning process will cost roughly $350,000. That does not include the cost of the park renovation, which remains under discussion.

According to a release, the result will be an interactive design and activation plan positioning Linn Park as a destination designed to drive inclusive growth, greater public use and property reinvestment.

OJB Landscape Architecture is partnering with Trahan Architects to lead a team in constructing the community-led plan. CBG Strategies, Macknally Land Design and Khafra Civil Engineering will engage with the Birmingham community in the planning process.

“We want to hear what people want and need in a revitalized Linn Park,” added Nathan Elliott, Principal of OJB and project director. “Listening to what the community needs in its public space is the first step in this process.”

The first public community engagement event is May 19 with more to follow in July and October. An approved plan is expected to be in place by the end of the year.

Key project partners involved in the planning process are the Mayor’s Office of Social Justice and Racial Equity, the Birmingham Museum of Art, The City of Birmingham Park and Recreation Board, Neighborhood Housing and Homelessness, The Friends of Linn Park and The Philip Morris Fund for Design Arts represented by the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham. REV Birmingham is the project manager.

“Our collective role is to ensure that we listen and evoke stories that only Birmingham and Linn Park can tell — ultimately creating a place that becomes a mirror every person visiting the Park, today and tomorrow, can see themselves in,” said Lesley Braxton of Trahan Architects.
