Great article about the budding cooperation between municipalities. I'm so glad the old guard is dying off. Good riddance.

surely they're planning on removing that giant gas station canopy / overhang?

It gives the place a lil' weird flavor with it...

haha. i just hate all the gas stations in that area. but they removed the pumps, so maybe it is staying.

also, new bar coming to homewood... The Battery (although not located in The Battery... kinda like Parkside not being located in Parkside?):

New restaurant and bar coming to Homewood's Central Avenue

Never mind the article, itself. Joesph Goodman writes these type of articles often.

https://www.al.com/sports/2022/02/at...ying-nice.html

Jay Heaps is President and General Manager of Legion FC. Quoted in that article...

And it’s everything Birmingham Legion FC needs to grow into a club worthy of entry into Major League Soccer.

How does that happen?

“The most important thing is the fans,” Asiedu said. “The fans are what it’s all about.”

It’s that simple. Start selling the place out and the buzz will grow.

“Fill up the lower bowl,” Heaps said. “MLS in two years.”

Nothing wrong with dreaming big. Maybe it’s not a pipe dream.

I just hope that they don't focus on the MLS dream too much and lose focus on making Legion the best USL team they can. If they try and make it too big too quick it won't happen.

I mean they have made the playoffs every year since entering USL. They sign really good players all the time. The ownership group ultimate goal from the beginning when they first announced was to achieve the top prize, MLS. In the process of doing that, through the upcoming years from 2019 until now and beyond, is to build a HUGE fan base. That was really about the move to Protective. You don't need a gigantic billion dollar facility for soccer. I'm not saying it happens, but they have the financial ends to make the jump. They just need people in the seats. Bottom line. Covid has been a hurdle for them. First year was great. But the past two years has slowed down trying to establish that fanbase.
