Well, that takes care of that. Good job, team.

Let's just say they are the BROOKSIDE of retailing.

What, you mean you have a problem with them taking your money and you wait 6 months for a damaged couch?

Shoot. Six months is optimistic right now for furniture. We renovated our place and ordered furniture in MAY and have yet to see half the pieces delivered.

looks like Alamo Drafthouse / Cinema will be the anchor tenant for the Powell Avenue Steam Plant.

i've never been, but this seems like a pretty good "get"... hoping that space out front doesn't stay a giant parking lot though.

(edit: Birmingham is listed as "Coming Soon" on their website: https://drafthouse.com/)

Yeah, it’s bad for a lot of things right now.

https://www.bizjournals.com/birmingh...ns-branch.html

The largest bank in the U.S. in terms of total assets plans open its first branch in Birmingham this summer, creating jobs for up to 10 new employees.

JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) went public with plans for a Birmingham branch in 2019, shortly before the start of the pandemic. The company finally applied and received approval for a branch establishment with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency last fall. JPMorgan Chase has touted the branch’s proximity to many businesses, public transit and UAB.

“The location at 425 20th St. is central to the buzz in downtown Birmingham,” a spokesperson told the BBJ.

JPMorgan Chase has gradually expanded in Alabama since 2012 when it opened a commercial banking location in Birmingham aimed at reaching mid-sized companies. It has opened retail branches in Auburn and Tuscaloosa since then.

Alabama Market Director with Chase Consumer Banking Jennifer DiSalvo will oversee the new branch, along with local branch manager Jonathan Feeback. The branch will be staffed with eight to 10 employees. The company is actively looking to hire local talent.

The branch will be approximately 3,900 square feet with an open concept living room area, self-service transaction areas and a digital access bar, smart ATMs and free WiFi. In addition to offering traditional banking services, it will have a Chase Private Client team, financial and home lending advisors and business banking relationship managers.

A spokesperson said Birmingham was chosen for a new branch because it is a relatively high-growth area. Branches, which allow for personalized financial service, are fueling JPMorgan Chase’s growth, according to the company, and account for 70% of its deposits, which is consistent with pre-pandemic levels.

I'm trying to figure out the strategy of this market entry, how they're going to support one branch, and how it's staffed. Despite what they say in the press release, I would imagine that its proximity to UAB signals an intent to flog business lines that support the medical community. Unlike every other bank that hits the market, they haven't built a branch in Mountain Brook or Homewood, which tells me that they're not going after retail banking, personal investment, and wealth management dollars all that hard.

I guess with online banking more of a thing and they just want at least one or two solid branches, but feel no need to canvas the area.

They opened commercial banking offices in Birmingham a year or so ago. A retail branch in that location seems like a good start. I am sure I am not the only person in town that banks with Chase.
