I decided to check out the Rotary Trail extension (called the Hugh Kaul Trail) this morning.

Very cool path essentially connecting Avondale (and ultimately Woodlawn / Crestwood) with downtown. Will be even better when the trees have matured and some of the other items (landscaping / seating / etc) are finished.

There are still some gaps, however. Anyone know the plan / route for these final connection(s)?

1. Railroad Park to Rotary Trail sign: Powell Ave Steam Plant development should factor heavily into this, as it's the main "obstacle" between these two points. I assume Powell Ave itself will host the trail as it's a natural extension of the main East/West path through Railroad Park. Not sure if it will turn down 19th or 20th for the final block to make the connection to Rotary Trail.

2. Rotary Trail sign to 38th St S / 2nd Ave S: This is the most complete part of the trail. Main things remaining are some landscaping and the "Sunrise Plaza".

3. 38th St S/ 2nd Ave S to Continental Gin (Cahaba Brewery): Currently incomplete (from what I can tell). Will it simply continue down 2nd Ave S all the way to the brewery?

Once it comes to the second GT location, does it continue on between some warehouse buildings. I think the plan is the un-used area between those warehouse building between 1st and 2nd Ave S., not so much as 2nd Ave itself. I think it suppose to head to 41st st. Then back over toward 1st. Ave S. next to the train tracks. 1st Ave S. actually goes around to the backside of Cahaba building all the way to that Dollar General that's across the street.

yeah, the trail runs directly alongside 1st Ave S until it gets to 35th (the new Ghost Train). at 35th, it goes south under the bridge for a block and then runs behind Ghost Train and empties out at 38th St S along 2nd Ave S. i'm not sure where they intend to pick it up to get to Cahaba.

the area between Ghost Train and Lee Rodgers Tire is where the trail goes: Google Maps

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but Mikes Pawn downtown is closing. I put this as Cool News because I think it would be great for that corner to be redeveloped. It is currently an eye sore.

Perhaps 10 more entertainment districts coming to the city. Birmingham proposed entertainment districts bill is now law.

current entertainment districts are:

Uptown/BJCC
Five Points South
Avondale
Lakeview
Pepper Place

i'm guessing 1st/2nd Ave N and 20th St S are the next logical ones? maybe even the Summit?

My mistake on that. 11 more possible districts. There are currently four approved areas in the city. Lakeview is not a "designated approved" status. The approved districts by the city council are Pepper Place, Uptown, Five Points South and Avondale.

So the areas I could see looking for a designated approval status would be Lakeview, Parkside, Morris/1st/2nd, 4th Ave N. district, Five Points West/Crossplex area, Colonnade,

If you name all of those places as entertainment districts, should you just name the entire city (outside of completely residential areas) one?
