I have/had both. Lexus service outshines all the German makes....very different feel of a car. Also RWD>FWD

Lexus cars may be 'boring' but given almost everyone who buys a car just ends up sitting in traffic anyways it hardly matters what its 'driving dynamics' are. The Lexus will always start, won't kill you with maintenance and repairs, and is easy to sell when you are done with it. I have an LX570 and an RX400h. Zero problems since new. I have a 1.5 year old Porsche. Little things break all the time on that. Drives great but it embarrassing when you take people out to lunch in your Porsche and something simple like the seat heater or moonroof doesn't work.

I want to like Lexus, but really none of their products appeal to me. I would go for their SUVs, but the RX is on the small end and has a weird mouse-joystick thing that controls the infotainment, the GX has a stupid side-hinged tailgate that is useless and dumb and the LX has a split rear tailgate which is just annoying.

I'd pick a loaded Toyota Sequoia over any Lexus SUV, it may not be as refined but at least it has a proper liftgate.

I love the split tailgate on the LX. Gives me a place to sit.

German cars have to look great they spend a lot of time not running yet still look great. I have had great experience with Infiniti's but they have lost their way other than the QX80 with the Delux touring hydraulic suspension.

I like my AWD LS460L. It is roomy reliable and gets very good mpg for its size. I want my car to run relably and comfortably the Lexus does that for me as does my QX SUV

I spend most of my time on backroads, so dynamics matters. It would even if I only spent 50% of my time on backroads.

Mine have been daily drivers that barely spent any time not running. My last one had two weekends out of 5 years where it was being repaired, and my current one has not missed a beat in the 6 months I've had it and expect it to be that way for the next 5 years. (BTW, my current DD had 150k on it when I bought it and it's in flawless shape).

But go ahead and spread misinformation, keeps the buy in price down for guys like me.

Okay. My experience is based on the following, all bought new by me, flawlessly maintained at dealer:
  • 1992 Mercedes 500SEL - great car, always started, nickel and dime me to death.
  • 1995 Porsche 928 GTS - Unreliable starting at 40k miles, electrical problems, always in the shop. Replaced by:
  • 2000 Audi S4 - driveshaft nightmares. Sold after 2 years.
  • 2003 Audi RS6 - by far the best car I have ever owned. Never had a single issue. Still drive it weekly.
  • 2004 Audi Allroad 2.7 - Suspension, engine, and transmission nightmares. Still love the idea of that car but thank god I got rid of it. Saw it last weekend after 7 years. Can't believe it was still on the road.
  • 2008 Mercedes CL65 - great car but started rusting within the first year. Mercedes fixed it but it started rusting again. Sold it soon after.
  • 2014 Porsche Cayenne GTS - Current fun to drive car. It is nickel adn timing me to death. Always runs but should't the unroof keep working in a nearly new car? How about the seat heaters?

On the other hand:
  • 1987 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ60 - The first car I bought myself -college car. Other than rust, almost zero issues over 125k miles. Replaced by:
  • 1994 Toyota 4Runner - One recall - head gasket. Other than that, not a single issue over 145k miles. Replaced by:
  • 1998 Toyota Land Cruiser - recently sold it at 331k miles. Never one single issue. Not even rust. Replaced by:
  • 2011 Lexus LX570 - One of my cars. 70k miles. Flawless.
  • 2002 Lexus SC430 - Current sunny day car. 50k miles. Flawless.
  • 2008 Lexus RX400h - Currently my wife's car. 100k miles. Flawless.

So a little bit of experience myself. Other than the RS6, I've never been brave enough to keep a single European car beyond the warranty.

Being out of service two weekends in five years never happens with my infiniti and lwxuses.. They have set your standards too low...

My 66 month old qx56 hasn't been in for anything despite 60k miles on rough mountain dirt and gravel km roads when I take it to NM mountains.

I like Audi, Infinity, Cadillac and Jaguar myself. In that order. I don't like Mercedes styling at all. And I like BMW even less. Porche is too small and cramped for me to take seriously.
