There is some speculation out there that Carl Edward's may be talked into driving the 23XI #67 car next year.
It would be between 1 and four possible races and Denny is pushing hard.
I don't think it's a coincidence that we are seeing Carl more in the past few months. If would be no pressure and fun for him to get back behind the wheel for a few races. Plus his familiarity with JGR and Denny goes a long way.
So NASCAR blows $50M on the Grant Park 220 street race in Chicago and expects fans to pay general admission tickets that start at $269. Reserved grandstand seats start at $465, the Pit Road Terrace club starts at $1,265, and the President’s Paddock Club starts at $3,015.
NASCAR is projecting 50k fans a day this weekend and expects to sell out most tickets even though there have been a lot of complaints from fans. NASCAR is hoping to draw new interest into the sport.
For fun, I watched the iRacing Grant Park race yesterday. It was pretty uneventful. No on track lead changes. The 11 car held the lead for about 80% of the race, but the #18 had a faster green flag pit-stop (however that works) by a hair and got out just as the 11 was charging down the track. Once the leader got clean air, there seemed like really no place to pass unless someone made a mistake.

I don't see it. Carl has made several very telling statements.. Including this past weekend at Nashville where he said that he couldn't come back and not give 100% and that being part time, he didn't think he could do that.
But.. Somewhere else, I believe back at Darlngton.. He talked about the hard hits that were being taken and that he wasn't willing to risk that anymore.. Which.. The root of that.. Whether that's HIM saying that, maybe because he's worried about not being there for his kids.. Or if this is something that's more coming from his wife getting worried.. Or maybe both.
I really don't see him coming back. Not in Cup.. I'd more expect Trucks or Xfinity.
Name the part time drivers in the past 30 years who have won a race. Allmendinger and Keselowski are the only two I can think of, and.. They were just part time in Cup.. they both were full time drivers, just not in the Cup series.
Haley, too. But, again.. He was full time.
Back in the day, this was more common, but the competition was much less back then.
I agree. I would be pretty surprised if Carl ever got back into competition.
