"The secret of effective prayer is to change your status from beggar to child of God; when you appeal to Him from that consciousness, your prayer will have both power and wisdom." - Paramahansa Yogananda
It is interesting that when we pray we strike a pose in a sense, and it comes naturally. When we view God as the manifestation of the Self within as the world we experience, the prayer is never about begging. It is closer to surrendering to the Oneness.
For enlightenment to happen the perceiver must turn right around and wake up to the fact that he is face to face with his own nature – that HE IS IT. The spiritual seeker ultimately finds that he was already at the destination, that he himself IS what he had been seeking and he was in fact already home.
Because there is no other awareness to know the Existence within,
Existence is Awareness,
And Awareness is all that we are.
(Not our body, mind, thoughts, feeling, emotions, ego.)
OM. This is that Word that is Everything. This is the explanation:
All that comes into existence, exists, and will come into existence are all OM alone.
What exists in all three states (awake, dream, sleep) is OM alone.
Brhman is all. That Self that is within is Brhman.
— Mandukya Upanishad.
Chanting the sound produces a sympathetic vibration that connects to what always exists, called OM - indicator of Brhman. Chanting transforms into meditation called Savikalpa - meditation on a form, Brhman.
OM is the sound caused by 3 Sanskrit vowels, which per the grammar rule coalesce into one sound, which is the only correct way it should always be chanted. Separating the vowels as some do is meaningless and wrong.
Ah for Awake, Oh for Dream, M for Sleep. The Silence that follows is Brhman/Ishvara
Always remember that you belong to no one, and no one belongs to you.
Reflect that some day you will suddenly have to leave everything in this world -
so make the acquaintanceship of God now.

"Yogis don’t age if they chose not to. I met a 110 year old Himalayan yogi sitting in a cold mountain cave in a loin cloth. I asked the yogi if he is doing this to get closer to God. He said, "No. We are here to show you your potential." - Paramahansa Yogananda
