Reincarnation does not always happen in the same way. Some bright souls are helped to return earlier than their karma would suggest. Their presence is needed and they have made vows long ago to return whenever necessary to help suffering humanity.
William Q. Judge, a stalwart co-worker with Blavatsky was one such example. Here are some details:
Theosophy teaches, as foremost of all virtues, altruism and self-sacrifice, brotherhood and compassion for every living creature, without, for all that, worshipping Man or Humanity.
Undoubtedly moral elevation is the principal thing insisted upon in the Theosophical Society. He who would be a true Theosophist must bring himself to live as one.
A recent topical compilation of extracts is titled Timeless Truths of The Secret Doctrine. Here is a bit from the first of 56 topics, on the Absolute:

An Omnipresent, Eternal, Boundless, and Immutable
PRINCIPLE on which all speculation is impossible, since
it transcends the power of human conception and could
only be dwarfed by any human expression or similitude.
It is beyond the range and reach of thought - in the
words of Mandukya Upanishad, “unthinkable and unspeakable.”
The whole Kosmos is guided, controlled, and
animated by almost endless series of Hierarchies of
sentient Beings, each having a mission to perform,
and who - whether we give to them one name or
another, and call them Dhyan-Chohans or Angels - are
“messengers” in the sense only that they are the agents
of Karmic and Cosmic Laws. They vary infinitely in their
respective degrees of consciousness and intelligence;
and to call them all pure Spirits without any of the
earthly alloy “which time is wont to prey upon” is only
to indulge in poetical fancy. For each of these Beings
either was, or prepares to become, a man, if not in the
present then in a past or a coming cycle (Manvantara).
They are perfected, when not incipient, men; and
differ morally from the terrestrial human beings on
their higher (less material) spheres, only in that they are
devoid of the feeling of personality and of the human
emotional nature - two purely earthly characteristics.
The former, or the “perfected,” have become free from
those feelings, because (a) they have no longer fleshly
bodies - an ever-numbing weight on the Soul; and (b)
the pure spiritual element being left untrammelled and
more free, they are less influenced by maya than man
can ever be, unless he is an adept who keeps his two
personalities - the spiritual and the physical - entirely
separated. SD 1, pp. 274 - 275
Both immortality and consciousness after death become, for the terrestrial personality of man, simply conditioned attributes, as they depend entirely on conditions and beliefs created by the human soul itself during the life of its body. Karma acts incessantly: we reap in our after-life only the fruit of that which we have ourselves sown in this.
A child, as much as a man, resents a punishment, or even a reproof he believes to be unmerited, far more than he does a severer punishment, if he feels that it is merited. Belief in Karma is the highest reason for reconcilement to one's lot in this life, and the very strongest incentive towards effort to better the succeeding re-birth.
Before too much hyperventilating occurs, the title Lucifer has zero to do with evil or Satan or witchcraft etc. Here a brief explanation of the title choice:

Now, the first and most important, if not the sole object of the magazine, is expressed in the line

darkness” (iv, 5); to show in their true aspect and their original real meaning things and names,
men and their doings and customs; it is finally to fight prejudice, hypocrisy and shams in every
nation, in every class of Society, as in every department of life. The task is a laborious one but it is
neither impracticable nor useless, if even as an experiment.
