MY WIFE AND I ARE PLANNING TO MOVE TO MYRTLE BEACH OR THE SURROUNDING AREA (ADVICE ON HOUSES, SOCIAL WORK JOBS FOR CONWAY ANYONE?). I AM A BIT CONCERNED WITH SOME OF THE POSTS I READ THAT SEEM TO PAINT A "US AGAINST THEM" KIND OF MENTALITY WHEN IT COMES TO TOURISTS AND TRANSPLANTS. YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL HOMETOWN AND MUST TAKE PRIDE IN THAT, BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT AS A RESULT PEOPLE WILL WANT TO VISIT/MOVE THERE. WE PLAN TO MOVE THERE, MAKE A CAREER, BUY A HOME AND TRY OUR BEST TO FIT IN, AND I AM JUST A BIT CONCERNED ABOUT ELITISM AND BACKLASH. CAN I BE BLAMED FOR WANTING TO MOVE THERE, AND IS THERE NEED FOR ME TO BE CONCERNED?

I have been here since March, moved from NJ. I have had no problems at all with anyone here. Everyone I have come across is very nice. All of my neighbors are from NJ, NY or somewhere else.

My wife is from Perth Amboy, I am from Birmingham, AL, which is where we currently live. What part of SC do you live in, and do you know anything at all about the areas that surround Myrtle Beach, such as Conway, etc? We are looking for a place close to the beach, but not so far out in the boondocks that you can't get a decent bagle.

No problems in this neck of the woods.... everyone has been quite nice & friendly. The residential community we moved into is about 3/4's transplants but everyone gets along very well. We have met many of the locals through the schools & everyone has been welcoming. Hope this subsides your concerns.

PS: We're from NYC/Long Island

We live in Carolina Forest in Myrtle Beach. I love it - we are about 10 minutes from the beach and lots of shopping is close by.

I have heard of Carolina Forest as being in Conway, and in MB. Is it a city, a subdivision, or what? I have heard it is nice. Do you know anything about Conway? We are considering that area for the fact that it is a little bit outside of MB, and is cheaper. We don't want Vegas or anything, but we also don't want to be isolated in the country with nothing to do and no job opportunitues.

pvjd - I've been in my area of NC/SC for over a year and have experienced no prejudice because we came from NoNJ. I think that if you move and have a good attitude about making your new place your home as opposed to make your new place like your OLD home, then you'll be fine. Good luck!

Thanks. We have heard really good things about MB and the surrounding area, I was just a bit taken back when I read some of the posts regarding attitudes toward non-natives. I am sure it will be fine--just a bit of worrry I guess. I don't expect to change anything about SC, just raise a family, support myself, and buy a house. I don't think too many people go into it wanting to change anything, but when different people from different areas live in the same place I suppose a bit of a clash is inevitable sometimes.

Carolina Forest has a Myrtle Beach address but it's, it's own thing. It's kind of in the middle of Myrtle Beach and Conway. I love it because it's seperate and very residential and also close to the action.

It is only about .0002% of the people out there that are like that (as would be the case wherever you go). As with everything, it is the negative that is remembered and it is the negative folks that seem to be the most vocal.
