Hoffmantown Church is a large, modern SBC-affiliated church founded in 1954 with 5,800 members and an average attendance of 1,800. There are two Sunday morning services and a couple of children’s programs to take care of infants through fifth graders. The pastor gives weekly radio and TV broadcasts, and the church has an active schedule of interest groups, mini­series, and events.

Description: Nahalat Shalom Southwest Center for Jewish Renewal was started in 1982 by a group seeking a place to practice inclusive Judaism. The founding rabbi was Rabbi Lynn Gottlieb, one of the first women to be ordained. She was succeeded in 2006 by Rabbi Deborah J. Brin. The congregation did not have its own permanent space until 2000, when it bought an old Baptist church in the North Valley, and the former baptismal is now the spot where a 22-member klezmer band plays. Nahalat Shalom, meaning Inheritance of Peace, is a member of Aleph: The Alliance for Jewish Renewal.

Description: Located in the Northeast Heights, this was the first satellite hospital to the original Presbyterian Hospital 6 miles away, and it provides general medical, surgical, and emergency services, with 170 licensed beds. In 2007 the top-notch M. D. Anderson Cancer Center at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital opened, in partnership with the renowned M. D. Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas. The cancer center provides inpatient and outpatient care, using the latest oncology treatments. Other facilities at Kaseman include the Presbyterian Behavioral Health psychiatric unit, which also serves chemically dependent patients; the Sleep Disorders Center, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine; and a hospice unit.
