Description: The 11-floor Downtown medical center was on the receiving end of a $60 million renovation in 2007, and its high-tech care includes New Mexico’s only Gamma Knife Center for noninvasive brain surgery and the only intravascular ultrasound. The new Cardiac Care Center offers wellness programs, diagnostics, and advanced cardiovascular surgery and rehabilitation. The top floor of the hospital is dedicated to the UNM Cancer Research & Treatment Center Medical Oncology unit. The hospital also offers general surgery and surgical services in gastroenterology, gynecology, neurology, orthopedics, podiatrics, urology, plastic surgery, and both thoracic and vascular surgery. Imaging technology includes a new million-dollar-plus 64-slice volume computed tomography scanner, which scans and produces high-resolution images faster than conventional CT scanners. It’s used in emergency and trauma cases and for diagnostics that include cardiac, oncology, spinal injury, pediatric, and other exams. Lovelace Medical Center has 254 licensed beds.
