All I could find was one short phrase: "... at Man-Eater Canyon (WY) a reputed murderer and cannibal was finally arrested."

No further details were available at press time.

It's a pretty tough one so I'll give it to you.

A man named Alferd Packer was apprehended here in 1883 to be extradited to Colorado. Packer, a prospector, had supposedly killed and eaten five of his partners.

You'r up!

Not only was he a cannibal, he was a glutton!

I don't have a question right now, and I've got to get to work. If anyone else has one, go for it. Otherwise I'll attempt to come up with something tonight.

"The Great Register of the Desert" is known by another name. What's the name, and how and when did it get that name?

Independence Rock, The Register of the Desert (http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/old_west/16961 - broken link)

Independence Rock, a well known landmark along the Oregon Trail. Many pioneers passed by there, pausing to water their animals. One story of how it got its name is related to a wedding ceremony performed on top of the rodk in 1842, where the couple gave up their "independence" and became married.

I'll give it to you, Cptn, seeing as how the origination of the name seems to be in dispute.

The answer I was looking for was this:
"Named for a fur trader's Fourth of July celebration in 1830, this huge rock became one of the most famous of all Oregon Trail landmarks."

The Oregon Trail: Independence Rock

It's your turn, should decide to accept this assignment....

No question there are several tales regarding how it got its name. I picked the wedding one thinking it was the most interesting. It has long been a place where people left their markings as they passed thorough the great state of Wyoming on their migrations.

Looks like I neglected to ask a new question.

Here is one: How many ghost towns are there in Wyoming?

Quick clarification? There are a few that are listed as ghost towns, like Recluse, but has people still living there. Do these count?

I found a site which had a list which included a few towns, where I know a few people still live. As long as you are close I will consider it good enough.
