You're are clueless.

Once again, the irony is nothing short of amazing.

I see a great opportunity to write a query and see if they can get an "on spec" quote for their future article! Perhaps a tale about chasing one's tail. — Oops, I just described the plight of most of we writers.

Sadly, it is only writers who think in terms of queries and "on spec" writing.

& the payoff would be several taels of silver (about an oz. each, apparently).

Yah, I'm not a professional writer, but I am very interested in the use of language. An Orwellian kind of preoccupation, yes?

& I owe you a plus.

We in this topic are the combination of grammarians, published authors and prospective authors. We share a regard for the proper use of the English language.

Or in my case I sometimes come out for the case of professional authors eschewing the formal rules and creating their own in the process of becoming the masters of their fate.

Amateurs are not encouraged to venture out on their own unless they wish to embark on a journey of rejection, ignored queries, and perhaps... success as a published author.

Ignoring the rules should be done cautiously. For example, bad grammar and dialect have their place in dialog. An author who bends the rules gratuitously just because he can is probably going to lose me. Doing so will make me lose the flow of the story as I roll my eyes at the mangled language.
