I use the "pin-pen merger." It takes considerable deliberate effort for me to say pen with a short e.
When I do, it sounds weird!

A close friend of mine pronounces, "rid" as "red." I always want to say, "That makes me blue, friend."
One of my pet peeves is the insertion of, "You know", into someone's statements.
Many years ago, I knew someone who was locked into the...culture...of the '70s, and his response to almost every statement embodied the title of a song from that era, namely, "You've got to make your own kind of music", which--I think--was performed by one or more members of The Mamas and The Papas.
I vividly recall that this guy once said, "You've--you know--got to--you know--make your own kind of--you know--music.".
And, he then added, "Do you know what I'm saying?"
You do better cuddling lazy, good-for-nothing welfare recipients. - I hadn't realized there was so much cuddling in politics.
