Why would someone with his background think of home as anything other than where he grew up (for him, England)?

Well surely with foreign heritage you'd be more multicultural.

Thats what my experience is with the ones in my school.

Perhaps, but he wouldn't have any other place to call "home", and since he's from a mixed background his parent could only speak English and wouldn't have a foreign culture in common.
