Has it been windy? Perhaps that'll keep the temperature from dropping at night too much.
That’s probably, light breeze could be enough. Maybe the weaker sun keeps the days a bit cooler compared to February for the same airmass. Feb 2015 got 18/-14 days or even warmer days while our coldest is forecast 11/-11 or 9/-9
Yet the nights aren’t as extreme. Any ideas on why the diurnal range is so low?
Winds would do it or lack of snowpack but I think you have snow on ground there? Maybe not as thick as in Feb 2015? How about Clouds? I think was clear last night though.
Also Airmass aloft may have been colder Feb 2015. Here was Feb 14, 2015: Or maybe slower to leave?
Not only is it just consistently below normal next 10 days but I see 2 more reinforcing shots of Arctic air after this one this week. Maybe that 3rd one wont happen? Also a big coastal storm for the 4th
Here's Washington D.C's data from the latest Euro model. Surface stays below freezing next 10 days except this Friday & maybe Saturday.
It's only 12° F as of 2 pm. Cold, but not as bitter as yesterday, and we still have a snowpack of about 2". The official low in Pittsburgh was +1°F, and my backyard dropped to -1°F.
Sites in Western PA:
Bradford -12°
Laurel Summit -6°
Du Bois -4°
Johnstown -1°
West Mifflin -1°
State College 0°
If anyone has insight into this phenomenon, I thank you for your input in advance:
We had our 3rd coldest winter on record 3 years ago, we haven't had a hot summer since 2012.
Yet all the so-called experts and stats state the planet is getting warmer.
How can this be?.
Remember this cold snap will end in a week. 30's or 40's is great outdoor weather.
No it's not. 50's or 60's is great outdoor weather this time of year.
