The extreme minimums aren't close to February 2015 cold but it's more consistent cold; February would bounce back and forth between "normal cold" and "extreme cold". Will be interesting to compare. Here's Amherst. Four day stretch in mid-february was similar max-wise, but that's only four days below 20°F. There was a near-thawing break just before and after
and next week's forecast
Six(!) days below 20°F, minimums aren't as extreme though. And no sign of a warm-up to around 30°F. Diurnal ranges are lower. And for NYC. Cold snaps didn't last as long, that four day stretch wasn't as consistently cold. And of everything was around 10°F warmer
And that’s one of the big reasons why the NE and Midwest is bleeding population while the SW and FL are gaining. Most people don’t like cold (and the snow and ice) but you wouldn’t know it from the cold-loving nutcases here on the CD weather forum.
Liking those back-to-back 20F highs on 31st/1st for NYC, both NWS and WU are in agreement about that. Wind chills should be below 0 too! Will be in Lake Placid that day (changed plans) where it's forecast -20F.
^All right antinimby, then you can stay inside and be unhappy. Meanwhile this cold-loving nutcase will be traveling upstate having the time of his ****en' life.

Bookmarked. I have seen the first link before, used to check that site, then moved onto simpler sites and then forgot. Was expecting you to post that Wyoming sounding graph.

I wouldn't think Skiing would warm you up since your just gliding along without much body movement except knees and arms + the wind but I can see how it gets the blood pumping enough to warm you up.
only skied a couple times, but when you're doing turns you'd warm up. Bomb fast downhill probably not.

Thanks for posting the maps! Nice to sit back and read sometimes.
Wonder if we'll get the famous January thaw or skip that and just get Spring in February. Heat wave in March maybe. lol
Glad you like my maps. This cold pattern can't last forever… right?

From what im hearing after first week of jan it warms up... la nina winters typically end second half of jan...
Though there are exceptions of course.
Which model does Weather Undreground use and how is it generally? In Tx we see little moisture from this thing but even in N. Tx its cold and heading lowers. 60 hours below freezing a head starting NY day
