Where I was today:
Air Temp: 24°F (-4C)
5000' Temp: 7°F (-14C)
Sky: Sunny
Time: 1.5hrs on red trail with many stops for pictures.
Location: Sunny Valley Preserve: Bridgewater, New Milford, CT (Hemlock Road)
I took a wrong turn in New Milford but didn't mind the scenery.
Driving through a residential area to get to the preserve
Arrived. 1st thing I noticed was the lack of snow cover. It was thinner in the woods than in the residential areas minutes ago.
A lot of Hemlocks around the entire hike.
Very crunchy and hard snowpack and glad I had these.
Here's the trail map.. I highlighted my route. From the parking spot I took the blue trail, made a right onto the red trail which leads to the River, then made a left on the blue trail and headed back.
It's good I tested it first. There's water flowing under there.
Down to the Housatonic River.. I wouldn't walk on it. The sounds coming from the ice and water underneath was awesome. Sounded like a big ice shelf was breaking off. lol.
See it?
Balance Danielson. There was water on both sides. Snow still on the branches. Big difference just 30 minutes south of here.
Unfortunately a lot of dead trees around. More than usual. No idea what that was about! They were down, rotted and then I spotted this. I thought someone nailed something to it. Mushrooms. A sign of rotting
Another little brook
Last one....... Lets protect these areas!
