I don't know how they survived what we just went through. I thought for sure the leaves would drop. They were closed and pointing down. Wish I grabbed a pic last week

^^Yeah, seems they have been through a rough time lately there in Connecticut..what was the coldest low at that spot in this cold spell?

Rhodo's are often pretty hardy.
We have plenty of Rhodo's here in Trondheim too.

I think both of you are in the same hardiness zone [zone 6]. Probably very different weather patterns in the how cold snaps occur. That southern Norway place you should photos of has very similar winter averages to Cambium's location.

The southern town where I took those images seems to be in zone 8. Just a short distance inland will have colder lows in winter.
Trondheim is in zone 6 using older averages, maybe 7 using the latest 30-year period.

Crap, shut computer down. Will check tomorrow. Was below 0F I think -7°F. I think it was more the consistency of staying below 20°F that made me wonder how they tolerated it. Usually we rise above freezing in the day at least after a couple days but we had 2 straight weeks staying below.

Just over the border into upstate NY, Monday morning. gloomy and cold, around 20°F. Still felt mild relative to what it was this weekend

too many pigeons

=====================

back near home; nice morning sky. Mild winter morning yesterday, right around freezing. It went above 32°F! It went above 32°F! It went above 32°F!

====================================

my street never got plowed well, was annoying controlling my car and street parking. Yuck

=======================================

Bicycle trash pickup; wide tires deal well with messy streets, mine would be clumsy.

this morning was colder, maybe around 14°F (-10°C) as you can from how she's dressed. Clearer skies = colder in the morning. Nice afternoon later with a cloudless sky.

Another nearby street

Spoiler

Decided to go outside during heavy rain to check on things....

One...

Two....

Three..

Saw this and was like oh man.. Ice jam backing up the underground water drain pipe.

Tis the season....but its not mud season yet.

Sinking with each step

See my boot? How about the umbrella?

I gave up holding it, luckily was warm enough to just get soaked while I fixed it.

I ripped that black pipe out enough to curve it away from the house, was still pouring out minutes after.

Add it to my project list for Spring

Instantly I miss the Arctic stuff. Bring back the 0s and Blizzards please!

1/2" of rain in 30 minutes!! Rapid Snow melt. Had 2-4" snowpack just few hours ago. Temp 55°F
