According to WolfamAlpha temperature has finally surpassed 30°C here. It was looking like it wouldn't surpass 30°C during January. The first half of the month was horrible.

Actually the max of Quillón was 45ºC, and Cauquenes was the one with 44.9ºC. As you said, new national records for Chile. Also some other cities in the country broke its record maximum: Chillán, with 41.5ºC (previous was 39.5ºC), Concepción, with 34.1ºC (old record of 33.4ºC), and Juan Fernandez island, with 28.8ºC (the former was 28ºC). Incredible day down there.

---

Here, the opposite. Yesterday was very mild: 12ºC/24ºC extremes and some inner cities in the Buenos Aires Province had chilly mins of 5-7ºC. But in the next days the normal weather returns.

Looking at the maps i've seen that the Paficic high probably is the reason for this heat wave in Chile,it common to it be closer to the continent in summer, but its very close, its creating a powerful subsidence, who means a very dry hot day but cool nights like in the forecast I posted about Chillan, also on the east coast, the Low pressure is moving cool winds into the subtropical areas.

After the record breaking heatwave in Central Chile, the abnormally hot airmass moved into the Northern Patagonia of Argentina, bringing us two new records, now on this side of the Andes:

Puerto Madryn: 43.4ºC
Trelew: 42.2ºC

Puerto Madryn is located at 42.8ºS, has even surpassed Buenos Aires' record of 43.3ºC and recorded the highest temperature ever for Chubut province.
Other significant figures were:

San Antonio Oeste: 41.4ºC
Neuquén: 41.0ºC
Viedma: 40.3ºC
Maquinchao: 36.2ºC

Puerto Madryn's historic daily progression:
(Also notice how the temperature plummeted due to the later cold front)

A lot of rain to the interior parts of the country but nearly nothing here on the coast, I'm tired of that.

At 42N, 110f is impressive, especially for a place with mild winters like Puerto Madryn

Why not,Chubut has a dry climate and is land connected with very hot places to the north.

The funny is because the forecast maps will shows temperatures of -15/-20C to some parts of the province in some months, the Patagonian plateau is one of the most wild places here in Southern Hemisphere.

I taken this from some day of the winter of last year :

This scenario is my nightmare, warm waters on the South America west coast and this cool blob off the coast here means a well below precipitation through the wettests months, this same pattern dont want to change,if this happens, there will be 7 followed years of drought.
