I'm guessing the 850 mb are colder to the north and west, which is why the Berkshires have such high snow totals. This looks like the best setup of the season, the along the coast track is better than previous ones.

Yup. 850s always colder (or cold enough) to north and west of storm track, that's why a coastal hugger sucks for us and if the storm moves north "into" New England its just even worse.

Please Watch Bernie's new video guys. He doesn't think this is a big snowstorm because the Arctic High is leaving, not arriving. But of course things can change! Simple Climatology .

Good video, though he focused too much on the Northeast Corridor for my tastes. Though of course that's where the people are.

Whites could get dumped with snow. Finally.

WPC update for Tues-Wed 16th-17th Storm..

NOT a track or a placement for a storm for East Coast Snows!! But should be fun to see the front end thump. Appalachian Mountains from North Carolina all the way are in for a good dumping.

Do you think the Charlotte area will get any snow?

Tues-Wed 16th-17th Storm Update..

Just saw GFS12z come out. No maps.. Will start posting them tonight or tomorrow.

I will say... GFS12z was the warmest of its last 4runs

  • Hour 111, Monday 10pm, Storm over Alabama. Snowing in Kentucky, Rain in Tennessee..
  • Hour 123, Tuesday 10am, 1000mb Storm over Carolinas. Raining all the way up to the CT/MA border
  • Hr129, Tuesday 4pm. 993mb Low over Del Marva. Freezing lines up to the Canadian border. (not a typo). Rains for even in Vermont.
  • Hr 135, Tuesday 10pm, 984mb Low over NYC. Temps in the low 40s up to MA. Upper 30s up to Montreal. Cold Soaking rains for everyone except Northern Maine and Eastern PA and Eastern NY
YOU CANT HAVE A TRACK FROM THE SOUTH UP THE EASTERN SEABOARD FOR SNOW. Especially with a departing High Pressure. Needs to be off the coast and nothing is indicating that right now!

I don't think you will but You might get some light snow Sunday night which wouldn't be part of the system... The storm I believe is too warm for you to get snow and you start warming up before the precip from it moves in.

Just warmer with the temps. Snow still there for those areas with heavy snow (WV, Northern Maine and Eastern PA and Eastern NY) but temps surged warmer faster so there wasn't the big "front end thump" for most of us.

Meanwhile... Canadian12z dumps on Kentucky, WV, Eastern PA, Eastern NY with the storm. But what you see East of the Appalachians here is front end snows. It turns to rain after that but stays snow West of the Apps!

Horrible storm track. This is just showing the frozen size of things. Could be mostly rain though but hard to put on the map so this is showing what happens before the changeover. Some areas shown under the Icy Mix here will see snow to start before changing to ice. MESS
