I really hope we have a strong wet season this year. Last year was pathetic. I hope we record the wettest summer lol.



We already have more precip this year than we did the entire first half of the year last year!

Hmm. Vertical Velocity sounds a bit similar to CAPE. Though CAPE measures the potential for instability not actual rising air, right?

Why do you care? don't you like cold records and weather? Besides any damage that has been done was done during the last freeze, this one wont cause any damage more extreme than that. Saw one type of oak that looked like its leaves were fried, this freeze will have slowed things down by a lot, I don't think we are too much ahead of where should be any more. Wonder if this freeze will help the cherries which never fruit unless taken care of properly due to lack of long cool season and long hot summers. Still though things are still fully leafed and not much was completely fried.

I generally like cold, but not major April cold after very warm March weather. I guess we'll have to wait and see how cold it gets and how it affects plants.

Great question. I'm not 100% sure but I believe CAPE includes the air temps and other factors where as the VV is just winds. Both are used in Severe Weather and convective stuff. Only VV is used to see where the heavy snow will fall.


BTW .. My 1/4" of rain looks like peanuts now. Check out some rain totals for CT, RI, and MA yesterday. Widespread 1.25 - 1.75" . Very wet past 2 weeks.

April 9, 2016 Snow event:


Your forecasts should have changed to lesser snow now north of NYC.


Latest GFS, Canadian, NAM, and Euro snow totals. See anything for CT? I don't. Maybe snow showers or flurries but no more snow event.


PA will get it and mountains of Virginias and even NJ will see snow.


I think CT getting screwed. The storm is too far south.

For period of April 2 to April 7 it was the 3rd coldest for Hartford. Only 2 other yrs were colder in 111yrs of records. Impressive for early April. I haven't seen that type of cold in over a decade.


Providence was 4th coldest. I quickly checked BOS, NYC, Richmond, and Philly and they weren't too impressive but still Top 15.

Yeah, even though it's been well below normal here too, it seems as if this cold spell has really been center out east.
