Spring looks like it has almost begun in most of western Europe temperature-wise, and seeing as the winter thread was opened in July () it seems an appropriate time to open this thread for those among us who hate this dark, cool, gloomy season.

With just over two months to go until Spring, and the warm up that will accompany it, what are your predictions/hopes?

March in recent years has been a mixed affair. First we start with the bad (coldest in recent times)

2013:

To the good. 2012 and 2014 were fantastic starts to Spring in this area:

March 2013 was a total disaster, coldest on record, ahead of 1962. That would've been a cold month had it been January! On the other hand, March 2012 was fantastic.

The ideal Spring would be a combination of March 2012, April 2011 and May 1989. Would set the summer up nicely for some scorching temps with so little soil moisture.

I'll tell you what; this spring has been just right, with daytime temperatures that are nice and warm, and nighttime temperatures that are cool enough to sleep comfortably without having to use the ceiling fan or air conditioner. It's been a perfect spring so far.

Can't wait for real spring.

My prediction is that March will be the same as December temperature wise but much sunnier of course.

Hopefully April will be like 2007 where we had 308 hours of sunshine, more than any other month that year.May will probably suck again just as most of the time. That month always feels gloomy-ish compared to April and March.

Yep 2007 April was also brilliant here!

We are long due a warm May as well, I agree that March/April recently has been generally very good and sunny which has made our poor Mays seem even worse

March 2012 was dynamite here with an average high of 17.3C. Blew away all records, and set up for a very proper summer peaking in July with an average high of 33.4C. March 2013 was a fail as was that summer.

Spring 2014 was nice and spring 2015 was a bit of a bust, but on the flip side summer 2014 was quite foggy and fairly cool whereas summer 2015 was very sunny and much warmer overall. If gloomy, cold springs lead to warm, sunny summers that last a solid 4 1/2 months then I'm fine with that.

Spring is ALWAYS windy though and I'm not looking forward to that.

There are daffodils outside; I'm cutting the grass tomorrow; Spring is already here.

In some ways it makes up for a cold Summer (only 3 days reached 21C or 70f). In fact, today had a higher max in Edinburgh at 14C, 57F than 2 days in July (12 and 13C).

Same here, we had an average high of 19.4C in March 2012. Summer was pitiful with only 5 thunderstorm days June-August vs. 27 in 2013.

March is mostly always a lost cause here, but I hope for a record warm April and May.
