No freezing temperatures on the horizon, and I hope it remains that way.

What a night for early March. I was wearing shorts after dark and it still felt quite mild. Forecast doesn't fall below 60F tonight, in fact it's expected to rise again after midnight and rain moves in.

Min - Max Temps today. They Still haven't changed the scale.

Current Temps. I am still so fascinated by how far south that Upper low is.

And do you think it's a coincidence that the Northeast saw record max's and earliest 70, 75, 80+ temps??? Nope. Atmosphere is like a stretched rubber band, pull it south so much, the other side goes north.

Canada got lucky the ridge didn't stretch that far north!

Warmer in Albany than in Mexico

Check out some Discussions updates from NWS Boston...

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
617 AM EST WED MAR 9 2016

ONCE IN THE WARM SECTOR...EXPECT A SUNNY DAY. HEATING/MIXING MAY REACH
TO 925 MB WHERE AFTERNOON TEMPS WILL BE 14-16C. THIS WOULD SUPPORT
MAX SFC TEMPS OF 70-75.

===================================

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
1023 AM EST WED MAR 9 2016

10 AM ...

ON OUR WAY TO NEAR RECORD HIGHS TODAY WITH TEMPS AT 10 AM ALREADY
INTO THE LOW AND MID 50S AWAY FROM THE SOUTH COAST...ALREADY 10-15
DEGS WARMER THAN OUR TYPICAL HIGHS FOR MARCH 9TH.

12Z OBSERVED UPSTREAM SOUNDINGS FROM ALY AND OKX REVEAL A STEEP
LOW LEVEL INVERSION...UP TO ABOUT 925 MB AT ALY AND DOWN TO 965 MB
AT OKX. CONCERN HERE IS IF THIS INVERSION IS COMPLETELY ERODED
BOTH SOUNDINGS MIX UP TO 800 MB! THIS WOULD SUPPORT HIGHS NEAR 80
ALONG WITH DRIER AIR ALOFT MIXING TO THE SURFACE...INCREASING
FIRE WEATHER CONCERNS. GREATEST RISK OF THIS OCCURRING WOULD BE
ACROSS THE INTERIOR ESPECIALLY THE MERRIMACK VALLEY OF NORTHEAST
MA. THUS LOW RISK OF HIGHS APPROACHING 80 IN THIS REGION ALONG
WITH MUCH LOWER DEW PTS IN THE 30S. HAVE NUDGED THE FORECAST IN
THIS DIRECTION.

===================================

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
103 PM EST WED MAR 9 2016

1 PM ...

INCREDIBLE WARMTH BEING OBSERVED AT 1 PM WITH TEMPS INTO THE M70S
ACROSS INTERIOR SECTIONS OF CT/RI AND MA! COOLER TOWARD THE SOUTH
COAST GIVEN MARINE LAYER COMING ONSHORE. VERY WARM TEMPS OVER LAND
MIXING DOWN GUSTY SW WINDS ALOFT ALONG WITH DEW PTS INTO THE U30S
AND L40S. THIS IS RESULTING IN A ELEVATED FIRE WEATHER CONCERN.
FORECAST UPDATE FROM 10 AM APPEARS TO BE VERIFYING NICELY SO NO
MAJOR CHANGES WITH THIS UPDATE. EARLIER DISCUSSION BELOW.

=====================================

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
330 PM EST WED MAR 9 2016

330 PM UPDATE ...

RECORD BREAKING DAY WITH INCREDIBLE WARMTH THIS AFTERNOON. HIGH
TEMPS AS OF 330 PM BOS...77...PVD...70...BDL...81 AND ORH 74!

EXPECT A VERY MILD NIGHT AHEAD AS LOW PRES TRACKS INTO THE
MARITIMES AND ITS ATTENDING COLD FRONT SLIPS INTO NY STATE AND
NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND. THIS WILL SHIFT WINDS FROM SSW TO MORE OF A
WESTERLY DIRECTION THIS EVENING AND OVERNIGHT. THIS LAND
TRAJECTORY AND LACK OF AN AIRMASS CHANGE WILL RESULT IN A VERY
MILD NIGHT WITH LOWS ONLY IN THE 50S! THIS WILL SMASH THE RECORD
WARM MINS. SEE CLIMATE SECTION FOR DETAILS

======================================

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE TAUNTON MA
728 PM EST WED MAR 9 2016

7 PM UPDATE...

A BAND OF MID AND HIGH CLOUDS CROSSING CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN AREAS
AT 00Z AS SEEN ON LATEST IR SATELLITE IMAGERY.
