It'll never happen. The all-time record for London is something like 37 or 38C, correct? No possible way it could go all the way to 40 C. What a nightmare that would be!
The record is 38.1, but if the conditions that created that heat had occurred at the start of July, with longer days and a stronger sun, the temps could have been higher. Someone on the netweather forum was saying that with absolutely perfect conditions, London could hit up to 41c.

It might be a 1000 years before you get those "absolutely perfect conditions" - or at least I sure hope so.
The prospect of London matching Atlanta's all-time record high scares me a little. More than a little, actually...lol.

It most likely happened in some of the heatwaves in the 1500-1600s. It has been recorded unofficially since then though, such as in 2003 when a sheltered garden in the SW suburbs recorded 42c.
Nice hits 27°C on this chart. Boring ass climate.
LOL, I was looking at the charts yesterday and thought of you and dhdh.. 37C in London, 40C in Paris, and Nice with 32C You do get 25C lows though apparently.. I can imagine Nice would probably be one of the most unpleasant places in the country next week though.. very humid and no escape from the heat with high lows...

That's 4C above the official Max! Obviously rubbish.
As for this spell. The predictions are all over the place, but it's incredible seeing some of these number's. Even if it doesn't happen to be as hot as hoped, the fact that these charts have shown up with these incredible temperatures is certainly something to remember.
