"Tractor-trailers banned from interstates in Central New York due to snow "
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Tractor-trailers and large commercial trucks are being temporarily banned from traveling on major highways in Central New York because of heavy snowfall.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the ban would be in effect from 5 p.m. Wednesday until at least 6 a.m. Thursday and would affect parts of interstates 90, 81, 390 and 690.
switched to snow briefly yesterday evening. Then back to drizzle... Woke up this morning and it was snowing lightly. Grass more bare than not but some stuck.
I haven't gotten around to checking the snow totals yet but apparently it's over-performing for many folks. Albany area got hit nicely. Westerlo, NY with 20 inches!
Upper Levels of atmosphere DOES NOT move as fast as the surface. So when you have an Upper Low, its not in and out like a surface storm.
Current 500mb heights. Still over the area. Over 24hrs now.
Looks like it starts to wind down and move out tomorrow.
I really really wish more official records were kept in Vermont for snowfall. Burlington seems to be the only main site. While others have been recording snowfall for years only Burlington goes back to 1800s and is official.
Burlington, VT had a record snowfall for yesterdays date. The 9.4" of snow puts them at 24.6" for season. Normal is 10.2" to date so they are 15.4" above normal right now.
Buffalo with over 2 feet of snow for the season so far.
Albany,NY had a record snowfall total for yesterdays date. Puts them at 22.1" for the season. Normal to date is 16.1"Burlington, VT also a record snowfall yesterday. The 9.4" puts them at 25.6 for season. Normal is 15.4"
