Current 850mb temps. I like how the Northeast has freezing or below like shown. Check out the atmosphere push west from the storm around Nova Scotia. Interesting. Trough looks Inverted.
Chilly this morning without sun in low-mid 40s but not far from normal.
Not just south Florida but nearby Cuba has experienced record heat. 101.6°F recorded, all time record high. And July / August are usually the hottest months there.
Part of the reason I don't respond to posts on Florida is I don't have a good sense of what the climate is like there; my image is it's always really hot there outside of winter months.
Fort Lauderdale International Airport broke its all-time April heat record with 96°F, while Miami tied its April record with the same reading. Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport sizzled at 99°F; this was just 1° short of the city’s all-time any month record of 100° achieved on Aug. 4, 1944 (records date back to 1912 in the city.) In addition, one preliminary report of 100°F came in from the Boca Raton area. The day’s heat was not only intense but persistent: Miami hit 96°F at 1:27 pm and stayed above 90°F for eight torrid hours. Strong westerly winds kept the typical afternoon cooling from the sea breeze at bay.
Link says moderate drought conditions is making the heat worse.
^^ Yeah, W/SW winds will always bring hot conditions here regardless of the season. It's been hotter than usual the last few years though. Normally April isn't a hot/humid month yet.

FXE records only go back to 1998 so 99° was the highest temperature ever at that station.
