Low of 17.5 F here. We might be very close to hitting the record books.

GFS6z says before my most hated storm track ushers in warm temps in the East April 2nd, 90s push into Kansas 2 days before.

These are the 850mb temps showing the mid level warmup. Look at that SouthWest push of warm air!

Remember, storms spin counterclockwise. So take your finger on the screen and do a large counter clockwise circle around the Great Lakes... You'll realize whats happening in the atmosphere. spinning that warm south air right up.

Curious about the temps aloft at 4500 feet?

Chatham, MA Balloon launch shows the 850mb temps at 12z was -19.1°C, normal is -3°C. They were 2° away from record at that level.

On the right is the 850mb temp map from 12z. The freezing line was all the way down in South Carolina.

Another bright full sunshine day but temps will struggle because the air above is so cold. 11am and its still 30s in North Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky. Only 26° here

Start of second week of April, doesn't look very spring-like over the Northeast. Looks like we flattened out the Alaskan Ridge a little bit, and pumped up a Greenland Block??

Can you tell my passion for weather? Hope you guys don't mind...

So here's a visual of the Water Vapor Satellite and the players on the field with the discussion from NWS NY this morning. Read slowly the discussion.

First off.. I'm still impressed how models can see all this happening over a week out minus the details of course. Its like they time the fluid atmosphere around the globe and see storms happening.

Second... I will always be fascinated at the timing of everything. Think about the High pressure over the Northeast right now. If that moved in today instead of moving out then this storm would be going towards Bermuda not up the coast.

Third.. Right now Circle #1 and Circle #2 are the main players. They will dive down and phase which will strengthen Circle #4 along the NorthEast coast which is still just forming in the gulf today.

Circle #3 is an Upper Level Low spinning around which is slowing down energy in Circle #1 so that the Polar energy in circle #2 can catch up with it. AMAZING!

Still a few snow patches left. The forecast for next Friday / weekend will probably melt the remaining snow and the forecast snow.

Moscow has apparently broke it's all time record high for March with 18.5C (65F) this afternoon. Previous record seems to have been 17.5C (63.5F).
