The O degree is getting really close...4F currently....on your map looks like Hamilton Airport is at 0F

New York State Thruway (I-90) is now closed between Lackawanna and Ripley (PA state line).

I'm in north central Va. and we're going to be -13 by morning, so they tell us. I can only imagine how those 25-40 below temps feel. Keep safe and warm everyone. And thanks for all the info, I've never been on the weather forum so much!

22 F/-6 C at 10:25PM with a windchill of 10 F/-12 C. It was 57 F/14 C this morning! Crazy. Going down to 0 F/-18 C tonight with windchills approaching -20 F/-29 C.

...ARCTIC AIR IS NOW ARRIVING ACROSS EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA...NEW
JERSEY...MARYLANDS EASTERN SHORE AND DELAWARE ...

TEMPERATURES THIS EVENING WILL BE FALLING SHARPLY AT THE RATE OF
3 TO 5 DEGREES PER HOUR FOR SEVERAL HOURS AS ARCTIC AIR ARRIVES ON
GUSTY WESTERLY WINDS OF 35 TO 45 MPH. SCATTERED SNOW SHOWERS
PRECEDE THE ARRIVAL OF THE ARCTIC AIR THIS EVENING...ESPECIALLY
FROM JUST NORTHWEST AND NORTH OF PHILADELPHIA UP INTO NORTHERN NEW
JERSEY.

NOT ONLY WILL DANGEROUS WIND CHILL ARRIVE BY DAWN...BUT THE COLD
AIR MAY FREEZE UP CAR RADIATORS NOT PROPERLY TREATED WITH ANTIFREEZE
AS WELL AS FREEZE UP PLUMBING ALONG NON INSULATED WALLS AND IN
CRAWL SPACES ALONG THE OUTSIDE EDGE OF THE HOME. LEAVING JUST A
TRICKLE OF WATER FLOWING FROM THE FAUCET CAN MINIMIZE THE
FORMATION OF ICE IN THE PIPES WHERE MARGINAL INSULATION EXISTS.
TURNING UP HOME THERMOSTATS FOR THE NEXT DAY OR SO MAY SERVE AS A
HELPFUL DETERRENT TO FREEZING WATER PIPES ALONG THE OUTSIDE EDGE
OF YOUR HOME.

TEMPERATURES DURING THE DAY TUESDAY WILL BE AT LEAST 25 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL WITH WIND CHILL HOVERING NEAR 10 BELOW ALL DAY EXCEPT NEAR
20 BELOW IN THE ELEVATED TERRAIN WITH GUSTY WEST WINDS TO 35 MPH.

Is that Mt Holly? I love their discussions. Always detailed and helpful. I didn't even think of the antifreeze. I'm hearing about cars not starting west of Ohio Valley. Homes cracking and popping. Frost Quakes in Canada. Interesting stuff.

This was the 10pm temps. (I'll get a taller and wider view in morning)

CTV Toronto contacted our NWS office in Grand Forks ND to talk about the polar vortex. I didnt realize it had become a buzz word.

Here is the live interview phone for anyone interested. They asked me to talk about the Midwest. Up here in our region where I live....yes it was cold but -50s wind chills happen every 5 yrs or so....but once you get to Chicago and other places the cold they have is more like once every 20 yrs, so that is newsworthy.
