Chicago's afternoon high forecast is -12F. However at 1 am, it was -3F. Is the daily high -3 or -12F? If -12F, Chicago has broken a record.

O'Hare got down to -16F, and Midway -15F. Even colder in the suburbs.

I'm referring to a record all time, not just one day.

Here's the actual extreme records I pulled for these select locations out of curiosity. Might not break but maybe enter Top 10 for the low max?? The minimum aren't impressing me

If Pittsburgh doesn't get above -3 they will break the coldest temp on record which is impressive since records go back to 1875!

Philly's coldest max temp ever was 5 degrees above zero. Records go back to 1873. NAM shows 11 on Tuesday so it wouldn't break but be very close to the Top 10 coldest days.

Scranton's coldest max is -2.

If D.C doesn't get above 10 degrees it will be the Top 5 coldest max temps on record. 4 is the coldest max ever which happened in 1899..

Lowest Max temp on Left, Lowest Minimum temp on right.
