How to interpret a sleet sounding. Remember, a sounding is as if you are on the ground (bottom of image) looking up into the atmosphere.

Snow/Ice Storm Update::

Case in point.... Look what the NAM does!!

It supresses the snow & front and in fact gives us nothing here but more snow southwards.. yeah, imagine that. LOL!!!

It's NAM's long range so it can't be trusted but we have to see if that's going to be a trend today! The system is near U.S now so why did the NAM show this? Probably an outlier (incorrect)

Details Details. Wobbles Wobbles. these subtle shifts keep weather interesting.

Look where it has the 6-12" swath of snow. I personally think its way to south

They need just 6" to be 2nd snowiest on record.

Look at it another way...

if they get another 3.2" nobody that is 67 years old or older has seen this much snow fall in NYC. Meaning, this much snow never even fell 70-145 years ago

Just wanted to quickly point 2 things out

This is the current Surface map. HUGE Strong storm in Pacific heading to CA now.

1. Models lack data from that area in Pacific so exact atmosphere conditions are not put into models. Only estimates.(which are mostly close in nature)

2. All storms wobble. So WHAT IF, the projected track is in white but in reality and tomorrow that storm shifts a bit south or north which would result in the Pink or Yellow line? That is implecations on who gets what and how much. That little change makes a HUGE difference from one town to another.

Just in case someone was wondering why there are last minute changes sometimes or why they didn't get snow or why they did get a ton of snow.

Posted this in the temperature thread, but thought it was noteworthy enough to post here as well. Today's record low max is in jeopardy (forecast 18 F/-8 C...record is 22 F/-5 C). We might tie the record low min for March 1st tomorrow.

No signs of winter ending. I don't see a high above freezing in the forecast and a storm is possible on Monday. Probably one of the best winters in my memory.

What's the forecast low for tomorrow? 3 against 1 that whatever your overnight low is I won't break it in March despite being 20 degrees further north.
