It looks like there's more precipitation than expected in the Deep South and colder air to boot, leading to a surprise widespread snow for Texas and Louisiana. There could be a pretty long swath of accumulating snow if this keeps up, leading to a very enjoyable morning tomorrow for Deep South snow lovers . Snow is on Jackson, Mississippi's doorstep currently with a temperature of 36F, which is good enough for them to wetbulb down to 32F and experience some uncommon snow. The pink is forecast to expand towards the immediate coast late tonight.

Indeed it is. We have to watch for consistency with regards to it going that far south, but as Cambium said there is model support for a South Atlantic snowstorm. If such a situation were to occur it would be the first coastal Southeast special in a long time. Just offhand, three inches of snow in the Panhandle has occurred a couple of times before, but the amount shown would weigh in as one of the largest on record.

Big freeze warnings for you cloudcrash!!
That 3.1 is only about 15 miles northwest in a town called Quincy, Tallahassee would be where the 1.5" is on that map either way, accumulating snow here is extremely rare! If this verifies.....that would effing awesome.

The largest amount of snow in FL ever is 3" on March 6, 1954 in Milton, FL. Which is located in western Panhandle close to the AL border. If it would snow anywhere in FL that would be the place.

Alex, is Chipley really like Mayberry?

I remember skipping school in Miami walking across the ballfield to go to the UM pool when it snowed. I saved the Herald the next day, SNOW IN MIAMI was the headline. That would have been, ahem, 1978 or 79.
