I've seen some initial fall foliage starting in late July in the area, and there's more foliage now, but obviously it's just starting out. I can't wait to see all those beautiful colors: red, orange, yellow, and everything in between - the foliage is really a great thing about autumn.

First aurora of the season here last night:

In March there were some nice displays as well:

They are rarely seen from October to February because it's nearly always cloudy.

And as a bonus, a Ny-Ålesund sunset for all Svalbard fans. At 79° N, this will last for hours and hours.

From my station on the roof at my location here. How would you guys like to walk outside in shorts and sleeveless shirt to get some air at 9pm and not only feel supressed by the unbreathable air full of moisture (not rain) but also get eaten by mosquitos left and right??????

This is ongoing!! Its disgusting. No rain anywhere near me. Dew point in mid 60s. Humidity 90% and it feels like mid 70s at night. Bug all over the place! you can even sit outside.

Since July 1st!

Its no different at 9:30pm now.

Happy. I'm in the same conditions and fine. No mosquitoes, same temps though. Didn't realize humidity was that high, explains why I was getting sweaty moving around.

72°F temperature, 68°F dewpoint right now.

I have a gigantic problem with bugs and mosquitoes down here and its not just my house. West Nile virus was confirmed few towns over from me. I've bought the spray 3 times this year and there's just no end in sight. It helped for a week but they come back. Every spot around here. If you walk around the block you'll have a pint less of blood by the time you get back.

We need a good solid hardcore persistant prolonged deep severe fridgid cold snap of below 0 for 2 months straight starting NOW.

PARTLY TO MOSTLY CLOUDY SKIES IN THE MORNING WILL GIVE WAY TO
MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES IN THE AFT. IT LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER WARM...MUGGY
DAY FOR THE TRI-STATE AREA WITH HIGHS TOPPING OUT 5 TO 8 DEGREES
ABOVE NORMAL...LOWER 80S COAST TO NEAR INLAND/METRO NY. LOWS FRI

Notice CT is on one of them.

Out of the 8 counties in the state, only one county is in that alert. Mine. NYC isnt even on there. LOL!!

I tried...I have no idea how you people like this season.

Default First Polar Air Mass

Here we go boys and girls. First signs are upon us. Not going to happen over night but this is a start.

HPC's Extended Forecast Discussion

EXTENDED FORECAST DISCUSSION
NWS HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL PREDICTION CENTER COLLEGE PARK MD
224 PM EDT THU SEP 06 2012
VALID 12Z SUN SEP 09 2012 - 12Z THU SEP 13 2012

PRELIMINARY UPDATE...
USED A BLEND OF THE 00Z/06 DETERMINISTIC ECMWF AND ECENS MEAN TO
UPDATE THE PRELIMINARY FRONTS AND PRESSURES FOR DAYS 3 THROUGH 7.
BEGAN WITH EVEN PARTS DETERMINISTIC MODEL AND MEAN, WITH A GRADUAL
TRANSITION TOWARD MOSTLY THE ENSEMBLE MEAN BY THE END OF THE
PERIOD. THE 00Z/06 GFS APPEARS TO HAVE GONE HAYWIRE WITH THE
DEEPENING CYCLONE
OVER CENTRAL CANADA LATER IN THE FORECAST, AND
IS ON ITS OWN WITH THE ENHANCED GRADIENT OVER THE MARITIME
PROVINCES WITH ITS TRACK AND TIMING OF LESLIE'S CIRCULATION DAY 7.
THE 00Z/06 GEFS MEAN HAS A SIMILAR ISSUE TO THE DETERMINISTIC GFS
WITH THE MID-LATITUDE/TROPICAL INTERFACE NEAR NOVA SCOTIA, SO
STEERED AWAY FROM USING IT IN THE MANUAL BLEND. THE PATTERN AT THE
MEDIUM RANGE IS DECIDEDLY MORE AUTUMNAL THAN THE CURRENT ONE, WITH
A SIGNIFICANT OUTBREAK OF CONTINENTAL POLAR AIR INTO THE EAST, AND
A HEALTHY SLUG OF MARITIME POLAR AIR
CROSSING THE NORTHERN TIER OF
STATES BORDERING WESTERN CANADA
