NIBYism going wild at the community meeting now.

Some guy saying don't put it near NH and put it at parx because all the residents support it there. Essentially a number of people representing the higher socio-economic class of the ft Washington area are trying to dump the Casino near Rosecroft.

Yeah it is but the reality is that it is but NH is the best location and they truly do support small local business. Placing it anywhere else would be asinine.

I don't disagree. It is the classiest design with the best placement.

Oh I wasn't saying that you were. My comments were more for the ones against the site for no more substantive reason than they don't want it near them. The one that annoyed me the most was the town mayor stating that they didn't want it because it was right next to their neighborhood. From what I can see on google maps (and driving by the neighborhood), they are no where close to being adjacent to the harbor. Her assertion is a stretch. The other thing that bothered me was the comments about increased traffic... Yeah there will be an uptick but the reality is that the traffic was there before the NH harbor and will continue to increase despite development because of the number of homes in the area.

MGM did fail pretty badly at not having the figures the commission wanted. That is a pretty big oversight. You should expect questions on revenue etc...

Yeah they did. I am surprised that they didn't at least have a copy of the proposal there ( or at least the executive summary).

Default Update on Wal-Mart in Oxon Hill

I decided to place this here since it is related to the National Harbor development. What's interesting about this protest is that they are complaining about it increasing traffic and being a safety issue for kids walking to school but not raising any concerns about the shooting that occurred at the Clarion or the fact that a school shouldn't be off a major street in the first place. Another thing that caught my attention is that they would throw away the building of a fire station which would be for the greater good of the community than have a Wal-Mart which may have lower salaries but still will provide an income for residents in the area. They also don't mention the fact that Peterson is going to build a office building next to it which could bring companies which pay higher wages. It fascinates me that their are so many residents in Southern PG that complain about development on one hand and then complain about taxes and lack of amenities on the other.
