[quote=UrbanScholar;31919781]Recording of Penn National presentation
http://pdvod.new.livestream.com/even...53b712b81610c2[/QUOTE

I got a chance to check this out when I was getting ready for bed. The one thing that stood out is that they did address the roads coming into the facility. They also stated that all costs would come from private dollars. They also seemed to have a great concert/event space and a good number of restaurants (albeit house brands). The problem that I saw with their road improvementmplan was right of way acquisition. They haven't started acquiring the land and negotiating purchase cost could eat a year oout of their schedule .....easy. The other issue is that they didn't meet with the county to get early buy in on their road improvements. They also didn't discuss how they would work to improve public transportation and emergency vehicle access to the site.. I also don't think the committee bought into the profit share idea once they explained it more. they didn't mention any retail options which wouldn't be a biggie given the type of vibe that they want to establish. It also seemed that their target is more local/regional and that Perryville (as a result of their split) would have little perks if they were given a new license.

Link doesn't work. Try this one? http://new.livestream.com/accounts/5...onal&cat=event

The Hollywood brand is the type of casino that neighborhoods complain about. It's a slots parlor. Sure it has a hotel and restaurants. But they offer nothing that says, "Hey, we're a destination first and a casino second." Like you said, its target is local. Forget regional. Maryland Live is regional because of the outlet mall. Why would people go to ANOTHER Hollywood brand casino in the sticks when they have Maryland Live and soon a Horseshoe by Ceasars in Baltimore?

More people in favor of the National Harbor location.

Quote:
The unions that represent construction and labor workers in Prince George's County are throwing their support behind a plan by MGM to build a casino at National Harbor.

MGM National Harbor LLC, Prince George's Racing Ventures LLC which is a subsidiary of Penn National, and Maryland Casino LLC, a subsidiary of Greenwood Racing are all vying for the bid for the license to operate a casino in Prince George's County.

The Gaming Employment Opportunities Coalition for National Harbor says its endorsement is about recognizing MGM's commitment to recruiting Prince George's County residents into jobs that will include living wages and fair health and pension benefits.

Thanks for correcting the link.....yeah I agree, at the end of the day they are middle of the road when it comes down to it. Most people wouldn't especially if there are no other amenities.

After watching the top video, it sounds like they are more about saving the horse racing industry than building a casino. Personally, I don't think the horse racing industry will suffer if a casino is not built there. People that love horse racing won't all of a sudden stop going because of a casino at National Harbor. There's a market for everything. There will always be a market for horse racing. Slots and a hotel would act more like a marketing tool for horse racing than anything as it would draw more people to the actual race track. Then they can say, "Oh by the way, have you tried horse racing? Look here."

Why not have the best of both worlds? Have a premier resort with a casino on the banks of the Potomac river in addition to a horse racing at Rosecroft. And if Penn National was smart, there could be a partnership with MGM to highlight Maryland's horse racing industry and history. I don't think MGM would feel threatened by horse racing. Especially not Rosecroft.

ANd you talk about putting all your hopes in one basket, why do they talk as if a Hollywood Casino would be the savior of horse racing? Has it worked in Charlestown? I don't know.

I agree it wont kill the industry in MD. A partnership with MGM would be the best way to go. Along with performing the upgrades to Rosecroft to enhance their look and Appeal. They could also add a cadre of non-gaming ameneties, restaurants and retail to pull a younger audience( similar to powerplant live). I think that would better than what they are proposing.

Their video presentation was kind cheesy. I mean it was to the song, "Wake Up Everybody." By Teddy Pendergrass. Very tacky. Really Parx? About 3 minutes of the video were of the outside shots. The inside was represented by rough sketching.

I thought it was interesting that they, along with Penn National, seemed to think that somehow they were miles away from residential areas and that their location was better than National Harbor. And even showed the photo indicating how far away MGM would be from the core of National Harbor. Really? He coyly asked, "How are visitors from National Harbor going to get to the MGM site - walk?" No smartass, they'll get there the same way they'd have to get to your secluded casino. At least the ride to MGM would be 5 minutes and not 15. On one hand, they made it sound as if being away from the core of National Harbor was somehow a drawback, but then touted just how secluded their site was from everything else with minimal traffic impact.

They talked about road improvements on Indian Head Highway and how they would bring development to the aging shopping center to the north. They would have the most slots in the state with 4000+. Restaurants, bars, etc.

PS. It seemed that most of the public speakers after the presentation opposed the Parx location and supported the MGM location. Friday should be interesting.

I'd like to see MGM offer to cover a certain percentage of the costs for a metro line. There investment in a metro line would be a wash as far as long term profits since it would significantly increase their traffic.

If anyone goes to these public conferences please suggest that on my behalf.

It would raise property values so it benefits all of us.
