Pure conjecture at this point. Ignore.

I wasn't paying attention last time unemployment was extended. Does anyone recall how long it took for them to come to an agreement? Just want some frame of reference. Thanks.

last year was last year, has nothing to do with this year, I imagine they will push something through probably end up staying into next week to do so, will create a very bad climate (worse than it already is) for Congress to just all go home for Christmas and not put something out there, but I wouldn't be surprised either way.

My guess is by Wednesday 12/21 we know what it is going to be.

Still, I would appreciate info if anyone has it. If nothing I at least know what happened historically for education's sake. Thanks.

FOX News is reporting that the Dems are backing away from the surcharge to millionaires to get the payroll tax extension passed. I'm wondering if this deal means leaving the extension as is with no new rules? This is all the info I've been able to gather so far. Can't find anything on Google to confirm this yet.

EDIT: Just found this ....

When it comes to a timeframe for extending UI benefits, there really isn't a point of reference. Back in 2010 it started with three months of thirty day extensions, then it moved on to five whole weeks with no activity or discussions at all before coming to an agreement.

The reason why there is no general point of reference is because each time this has come up the circumstances were different and there were varying results. The only difference with this extension deadline is that you know a decision of “yes” or “no” has to be made by the end of December. Other than that it's anyone's guess how long this will take...

I see. So sounds like they didn't always renew the benefits before the extension deadlines expired, if there were five weeks of no activity or discussion.

How about this year? What was the process like for them to push the deadlines to the end of this year? (I thought this happened late spring 2011? Or have I misunderstood completely?)

I understand that each time is unique. I am just gathering info; I understand that this time things can go completely differently than before. I apologize if this tries anyone's patience. I really do appreciate the info. I find it helpful. Maybe it's just understanding the chronology of events helps with the sense of helplessness I am experiencing at the moment, even if no causation could be deduced. Plus I am just curious, too.

Thanks.
