That appears to be a purpose.
Exactly! Do they really think we would build a bridge that wouldn't connect to nothing? I bet once the bridge opens it will be used a lot.

I wish Galveston could become a major city. Just picture a city of 300,000 or more. It would look nice with skyscrapers. But it's less likely to happen. Who would want to live on an island that can get devastating hurricanes?

Galveston is NOT a suburb. And yes it would survive without Houston. .........hell it was there before Houston. Houstonians just "use" Galveston when its convenient for them just like they say dallas do to Ft. Worth. They just try and act like they don't.

Galveston is one of the few Texas cities to be in constant Decline.

It hit its peak population in the 1960's and has been in decline ever since.
Its fastest growth was in the 1800's so maybe it would have been in the 300K's by now if it had kept that up.

In its defense thousands of Hostonians maintain beach homes in Galveston but choose to live further inland

Have you seen the recent development planned for that area? There's a lot of people who live in West Dallas. This will help alleviate the traffic on the freeways. The people who live in this area can get on the bridge instead of getting on the freeways.

Have you been to Galveston? Galveston is very boring. There's nothing about it that screams "Major Texas City". It's a suburb on a island.

There's alot of development happening on the west side of I-35 near Downtown Dallas. 5, 10, 15 years from now(?), Singleton Blvd may be very significant.

Fort Worth Is a metropolitan division of 2.5M Galveston is a city of 47,000.

Huge difference. Galveston is not even on the metro name. Sugarland and Baytown are. and even these are small 75,000 people towns. Galveston is no Forth Worth or Arlinton, or Plano, or Carrollton, or Mesquite, or the others.
