Looks like the SFPD took the gloves off that night. Check out the video clip in the article below.

If something isn't done immediately such robberies will become as common as petty theft from a CVS in SF.

The thieves likely will just move on to somewhere else to strike. That appears to already taking place. What I would like to see is these organized crime groups infiltrated and thereby possibly know in advance their next target.......then be ready and waiting for them. Also, identify those fencing the stolen goods......likely those individuals are brains behind these thefts

Yes, assuming the crackdown continues. Not everyone is seems happy about this.

...my personal view is it sucks the person in the video was stealing stuff, but the cops’ use of force was far more stunning and disturbing. All this violence, all these officers, to stop someone from snagging some handbags?

It may be ugly, but that's what people at certain levels respond to. Whether you're stealing from a store or breaking into a Capitol building, you have to let your law enforcement do what's necessary to restore law and order.

Exactly what I was seeing. This author doesn't get it. This guy wasn't going to eat a handbag.

On the other hand here's the SFPD doing absolutely nothing:

San Francisco police seemingly watch as burglars flee crime scene
...Over the span of the 2-minute recording, at least 45 seconds of footage show the two cars — the suspects' and the police officers — parked just meters away from each other.

A suspect, leaving the dispensary with a bag in tow, runs into the vehicle and plops the goods into the back seat, dropping some wares into the street as the car rushes to perform a three-point turn and flee the scene.
