I think Taco Cabana ran most of them out of business but a lot of them are still around. Truly unique for San Antonio--and really good food too! I have to go to Southwest Hospital now on Barlite and I try to connect the places you are talking about with what is there now. I hope I don't wreck my car trying to Identify these places!
I think that's my problem too. I got around too much and it just becomes a blur. Not just from driving around in the 70's. But, from 1965 had a motorcycle for about three years and went everywhere.

Bare with me if this has been brought up before, but does anyone now the name of the taco place that was on the corner Hot Wells and 37 highway, on the southeast side an exit away from McCreless Mall. They had the best puffy tacos, in my opinion, in the city. They always had a special of 5 puffy tacos for like 2 or 3 bucks. I think a gunshop took it's place. Now before my wife and I left SA in 96, we last ate there, then when came back in 98 to get the rest of our junk, it was close.

Do you Mean Hot Wells and Goliad? There was a gunshop there I think. But, I wouldn't know about the taco place.

I think it was Taco Hut. They were where the old albertson's was (it's where the mexican grocery store is now) and moved to where the gun shop currently is. They didn't last too long in the new location...

I do remember all the model rocket stuff at kiddie City. I never got any either. Must have been around 1961 or 1962 I was spending the night at my grandparents off Pleasanton Road down by Pan American Restaurant. Must have been ten or eleven yrs. old . I got on a city bus at Pan American. I mean this was an old city bus. Went down to Kiddie City and bought a model 55 chevy with doors that open and all that. Got on the bus to go back to my grandparents house. Sat by the window in the back of the bus (no air conditioning back then). Layed my model up in the back window. Got off the bus realized I left my model in there. Think I cried like a baby all the way home.

I think of other things when I go to Dairy Queen, but I sympathize with you . I've got relatives in Atascosa. An uncle of mine was volunteer Fire Chief many years ago.
