Yes I kept seeing the references to the Institute and the Zintgraff collection. Hmmm, I wonder if they let geezers in to the peruse the collection.... or would they make me stand outside and fan myself with a Progressive Farmer magazine? Just a thought.

I do remember the mural, now that you mention it. I remember seeing the passage, "no greater love hath a man than to lay down his life.." reference the Alamo. Man, I had not thought of that mural since way, way, way back.

Must have been after I returned to Georgia. I don't remember a Dr Pepper machine in high school. Of course, I've forgotten far more than I remember from that time ---and from last week for that matter!

When I was 14 in 1965 I had a motorcycle and I headed out Military Dr. from Flores St. Went all the way out past Kelly past Lackland & as I approached 410 (if it was even there) I saw this huge billboard " Welcome to Westwood Village " . Thought I was entering another town!

You can go to the Institute on line and actually look through collections. But, you can't see the photos you have to get a reference # and go in and purchase copies. BTW, You'll see a nice 1950 photo of the Mission Drive in , single screen then. Was Mission twin when I was growing up. Added the other two screens later.

That is funny! Reminds me of when we lived in Rhode Island. Between the cities of Newport and Middletown there was a chicken restaurant called Chicken City with a huge sign. We would direct people to our house by telling them to go through Newport, past Chicken City, and turn.... more than one thought there was a city by that name!

We lived in Valley Hi when I was in San Antonio. Anyone here from that neck of the woods?

I Knew people in Valley High back in the 70's. Loved zooming down old Medina Base Road in My sweet super hot 67' Camaro. My uncle lived there a while in later years. Used to meet at some Friends house and head out to Castroville for western dances or Quihi. Dances at one or the other every week. Totally changed for the worse now.

Last time I got very close to there , I took an antique refrigerator and cook stove to KLRN studios for my uncle. Behind the Institute I believe. Wasn't nearly as old as I am now and they let me in.
