Wow.
I've been looking at a lot of places to move as I'm disabled and can't afford southern california any more, and I have to say I was laughing out loud at some of the comments in this thread. Shopping carts in the parking lot?!?!??!? Sounds TERRIBLE! Why would anyone want to live THERE?

I'm going to visit Salem in the near future to check it out for myself, but from what I've read here it sounds like a lot of locals probably don't know what they have.

You are partially right, as many of the posters in this thread are not locals.

I looked for a place without too much rain, heat, or cold, not too far from the ocean, but not beachfront, either. Single family homes are a moneypit, everywhere you look, but big old houses, renting out lots of weekly rooms, those are major money makers, if you buy them right and they are in the right part of the right town.

Default What?

Some of the highest percentages for Hispanics has been about 40% for schools in Salem! There might be a couple with that percentage but thats not "Many". Where did you get 90%? Arizona isn't even as hight as 80 to 90%. I'm sure you got your info from AM radio stations and Mom and Pop websites.

You Know? I remember I gave a thought to moving to Boise, ID at one point. I remember reading reading that 95% of the city is Caucasian. The first thing that went through my mind was pre WW II propaganda films from Germany. Scared the heck out of me! I'm Caucasian by the way.

I'm not saying Boise is a bad place because of this. My personal opinion is that a little diversity is a healthy thing.

Sundial mobile home park now allows kitties and dogs! My mom has lived here for 22years and loves it. She is now in her 3rd home within the park. All the facilities are well kept and very clean. The managers, Danny and Terese are really nice and are very good at their jobs. Sundial now has a small donation center where residents can donate items they don't need, or take for free items they need. There is a donation box and all the donations go to fund the park functions like ice cream socials, 4th of July bar-b-q, Italion dinner. There are crafting clubs, card clubs. 2 times a year we also hold park wide garage sales! So if your thinking about moving, give Sundial Mobile home park a look! Talk to Danny Or Terese at the office for a list of places for sale.

Well the Hispanic population is about to grow because my husband and I are moving to either Eugene or Salem this January! No worries my husband is white so our children will only be half Hispanic!

I lived in Salem area a few years and here's my take:
Nice size with enough to do but not too much traffic and still close to PDX
Weather is mild and a bit cool but too much rain and clouds for me.
Crime rate is low for a US city.
Cost of living is low except for the high Oregon taxes.
Really beautiful area (all Willamette Valley is).

I would definitely consider moving back but I think I would like the Rogue Valley's warmer sunnier climate more so looking at that.

I know an awful lot of people and I've never heard anyone objecting to "hispanic". As long as you all aren't undocumented or a clan of drug smuggling gang bangers, you shouldn't run into any problems. I'm assuming you know the difference between US citizen, LAPR, and undocumented, because we all do. Dont do any drive by shootings and we won't shoot back at you.
