It seems not many, are happy, where ever they are. Everybody wants to be somewhere else. Human nature.

I think the population is 19 million, slightly larger than New York now. Frankly, bugs and snakes don’t bother me as much as some people.

We’ll move back to south in the near future but even a as a Florida-born southerner, FL didn’t make the cut. It’s too crowded. Best wishes in any case!

Well, the inevitable happened. A brushfire unrelated to any of the large brush fire almost caught our house on fire last Wednesday. The quick work of the fire department, P-3 with fire retardant, helicopters, and Helitack ground crew they saved the house. My husband clears the property behind out house (consortium owns it) back 60 ft. with his tractor, Ugly Betty, and his brush hog 3 times a year before the June 1 required date. The fire captain said that helped save our house and others.

I guess you never know what may happen. Just need to be prepared like we were. Florida hurricanes or California fires/earthquakes....hmmm?

Best,

Wow, that's a hard choice! Glad you and your property are safe! But there are a few things in favor of Florida for you, if I remember correctly.

For those considering retiring here: Please don't move to FL if you're not self-sufficient enough to care for yourself (ie evacuate if you live in a flood zone, stock up on supplies, food, water etc).....the worst stories in FL during severe storms is usually the car-less little old lady with six cats in trailer home flooded (because they place mobile homes in flood zones around here) with nowhere to go.......

Do you happen to know where the P-3 Orion was based? I'm just curious.

I packed up everything already in bins in my car with the dogs in 6 minutes, while my husband was with the fire captain. I was 100% prepared for Covid by mid-February. It's my nature. Good advice, though!

Cal Fire has two Helitack bases in Southern California: Prado Helibase near Chino and Ryan Air Attack Base in Hemet. Hemet is one of only two bases in the state that deploy helicopters, airtankers and air tactical planes.Aug 6, 2019

It looks like the P3A-Orion aircraft is based in Fox Field in Lancaster, CA
