Atheism As A REJECTION OF--Not Disbelief In--An Evil God (prophet, atheist, quote)

The durability of this trope that one must not participate in a conversation with a theist if you're not a theist yourself both amazes and baffles me. It is a complete non-sequitur. It's like saying I can't voice an opinion on public policy unless I'm a politician and in fact an elected official. It's just, frankly, irrational.
I have come to think most of this is just that atheism does not compute for believers, so they come up with various whacky explanations to try to relieve the cognitive dissonance: we're dishonest, angry, rebellious, confused, arrogant and so "methinks thou doth protest too much" starts to be the plausible under-current. Many completely forget that many if not most of us were once as they are, if not more so. And that also bugs them. We represent the unthinkable.
The other piece is that this kind of interaction was itself unthinkable just a couple of generations ago (Thanks, Internet!) and they just aren't accustomed to anything but their own echo chambers. They keep trying to swat this annoying fly that just isn't going to go away. We're way past the days when they could just shout "blasphemy!" to shut us up, too.
What's been interesting to me is that when I visited Thailand, and later lived there for a couple of years, many times I would visit Buddhist temple with Thai friends. At my initiation, not theirs. And, occasionally they would ask if there was anything they wanted me to have them explain. But they would often say something like, "I know you are American, so you have to be christian, so I'm just explaining so you understand, not so you become Buddhist". Never once did I have a Thai person suggest that I become Buddhist. And there were sometimes interested even in me asking some tough questions.
You used two words above -- amazes and baffles. Those are two words I would use to describe the reaction when I have told christians that I am Buddhist. They are baffled, amazed to the point of not understanding how someone, particularly a Westerner could be anything but christian.
You have no "facts"...just your Moderator cut: personal insults opinion of those that believe things you don't, and your "opposing view" that they shouldn't.
No, I have facts. You argue libraries can think.
Now instead of your usual deny everything approach, you could attempt to discuss the OP.
I never said it was. Some of us welcome honest alternative views.

Yes, you are talking about the belief held by others. Your beliefs are irrelevant when you are playing the Devil's advocate.
Noting the metaphorical and allegorical aspect of Theological writings can be understandable.
But anything beyond a mention of that (to those that you know truly and sincerely believe it)...I submit, is not reasonable.
"Devils Advocate" type arguments are usually just a method of disrespectfully denigrating the differing beliefs of others.
They believe differently than you. So what?
You don't like it because it doesn't pass your standard of "Objective Substantiation" and/or "Proof", and think it's based upon "bad arguments"? Oh, well!!
That's how it is, has been, and gonna be...so, you better get used to it and figure out how to cope...because you are not going to change it. In fact...those Beliefs are growing in this world. HOWBOWDAH?!
