I don't care for the paint colors, but I have never bought a house I didn't repaint so it wouldn't matter to me.

The house I bought two years ago had a bright orange, purple and green that looked like something in a baby's diaper lol. Plus the paint lines very bad. Easy fix.

What does your competition look like. In both the area we bought and the area we sold, many newish and recently remodeled resales had these strong colors that imo do not stand the test of time or multiple peoples taste.....i.e. the paprika's, pumpkins, various dark greens, spice, etc. If the other houses in your price range have similar colors it may not be as big a deal.

On the other hand, if your market is a lot of first time buyers, everyone is right, they want a new home, custom finished to their taste without paying the price they cant afford for a new house where they can pick out all the finishes. Its a losing proposition to try to appeal to all of them. The best you can do is make your home as move in ready for as many people as possible and then be prepared to negotiate or wait for a more reasonable buyer who can see past a trivial thing like paint color to the value of the house. My opinion is that unless you are desparate to sell its not worth catering to these people because they will end up being an annoyance all the way to closing.

All that being said, if you want to sell fast, I'm guessing you need to repaint a lighter more neutral color.

At your listing price of $279K, you are going to be near the top of the neighborhood range.
Ask your agent why this house 1901 Pebble Dr, Greensboro, NC 27410 - Zillow took 7 months to sell.
Ask why 1709 Hobbs Rd, Greensboro, NC 27410 is For Sale - Zillow has been on the market for 7 months.
And, this one http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/18.../5937577_zpid/ that you referenced took 5 months to sell.

I suppose it would be a big job to restore the white brick fireplace back to natural brick color. The white painted bricks work in moderne and contemporary homes but look a little disjointed with the dark earthy color scheme in your kitchen.

I have relatives in NC. I know the dark warm colors are popular in your region. Us Northerners need our white walls due to lack of sun.

I can answer about the Hobbs house. It is on a super busy road with difficult traffic. That makes houses difficult to move on that road.

The other house was for sale is 2012. The market was still very soft at that point.

I am from the north. In my last southern house my walls were all a misty light light gray. I tried to sell the stupid house for 4 months and kept getting feedback that the house was cold. I painted the walls gold and it sold in a week.

People are weird.

Just to see how much it will be, I will get a quote to paint the kitchen. I am leaning towards painting the rest of the kitchen the Baize Green like the far wall. That will cut down on the cost.

I think that would work. That color is very in right now and will be more popular with the young families than the darker green.

They aren't weird. It is my understanding that region and surrounding environment factor greatly into peoples' tastes. New Englanders are known for preferring grays and blues due to proximity to the ocean. I have visited your area of North Carolina before and notice many rolling fields of various greens, tobacco brown and lots of clay in the soil. Anyways, best of luck selling your home. You have put some good upgrades into it and you should do just fine.

1) if your Realtor, taking into account local tastes, believes that the colors will reduce your buyer pool, then chances are good that painting would help you.

2) if you are reluctant to paint due to the hassles and/or cost, that is exactly what at least some prospective buyers will be thinking also.

3) painting over bold colors is widely believed to be one of the most cost effective fixing up activities you can do, per surveys.
