getting a kick out of so many comments and nothing from a painter. I've been doing this for a very long time and have been involved with trying to make homes more saleable. Please remember that most people narrow down their search on line and will discount places with bizarre colors right out of the box. Sure, some people with not notice colors but that's assuming they take the time to actually personally view the place. Beige is NOT 1950s, it's neutral. Decorator and artistic friends have always told me that you decorate the walls, not use the walls for decoration. You need to pick colors that compliment the floors, that go with the rugs and give people who are looking a base for what they will do once they move in. You also need to consider that many folks will not even bother with places that will not accomodate their existing furniture. Make you house welcoming, remove clutter and get rid of the burgundy's, bright yellow and dark blues, greens and pinks that you and your kids love. The house is not for you....it's for the next buyers. Btw, I"m selling one of my places right now and will have another 2 for sale next year. I've owned 10 houses and have learned many lessons along the way.
