Dragging Clark Spoons, 0 or 00. Green, yellow or just the plain silver ones. Yellow seems best. Some nice size ones around. Fish em up.

Question for you, as I'm a trolling rookie.

What speed/s do you troll at? I'm guessing 3 or 5 MPH give or take? Is it better to be a tad too fast or too slow?

I know certain fish like Wahoo prefer faster, but I don't think that's much of a target species in the PC area.

I'll be down next weekend and wanted to troll the canals a bit, just for fun.

I troll around 5 mph for macs. My neighbor trolls about 6 mph. To slow doesn't produce as good unless there are big schools. It's fun where as you don't have to go out to the gulf to troll.

I'd like to go back in time and fish from the old wooden bridge that crossed the Myakka at El Jobean. It's been 60+ years since I watched a man do battle with a very large tarpon from that bridge while the sound of cars rattled the timers. When it was finally landed it filled the trunk of his car and the tip of the tail was dragging the pavement. Not edible I think now it should have been released if it would have survived. Memories. My grandparents camped on the shores of Charlotte Harbor with a mule and wagon in the 19-teens.

Happy Easter, everyone. A business trip to FL allowed me to return to Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf for a long overdue couple days fishing. We did one day inshore, in Turtle Bay, and caught many speckled seatrout, lady’s, a Spanish Mackerel, sheepshead and not one single catfish. Our keeper trout measured 16, 17 and 18”.

Yesterday we fished off shore in 75’ of water and had tremendous success and blessed weather. 3 of us caught/released over 100 fish, including short red grouper, Lane Snapper, Vermillion Snapper, Key West Grunt, White Grunt, Porgy, a one nice Trigger Fish. We were treated to our first sighting of Atlantic Spotted Dolphin, when a school of nearly a dozen showed up to say hello but didn’t stay long enough to spoil the bite.

We took home 40 fish, cleaned them all in a beautiful cool breeze on a Punta Gorda Isles Dock then enjoyed a Passover Harvest fit for giving thanks. My thanks also go to Bucknut and Fisher419 for hosting me.

Apologies to all the old friends I didn’t get to see. Know that I miss you and think of you often.

I took a 5:45 AM departure out of Tampa. Until next time, Southwest Florida!
