I understand this point. I guess what I was trying to get at was that you feel at that point it has obtained its own rights as a human. Is this correct?
If it is delivered at that point, yes -- although I am okay with someone being charged with two murders if they kill a pregant woman who is over 7 months pregnant. I guess I'm not really sure about what you mean by "rights." I believe a 7 month old fetus should be treated like a two year old child. Yes.
I'm pro-choice but I only believe in unrestricted rights to an abortion in the first trimester.
I wonder how folks feel about this "hot button" topic!
I'll say right up front, I am in favour of choice. I am not in favour of encouraging abortion, but I want that choice to remain on the table for each and every woman if she feels it is appropriate for her. Not my body; not my choice: hers!
the problem is abortion is an industry if not a religion and the abortion lobby NARAL ,NOW, use it for there ownsource of fundraising and political power. the good news is with the ultrasound technology what it is today, abortions are on the decline, because more women are seeing the truth with their own eyes.
When the baby is viable (can live outside of the womb), I would consider it a human. This would include most babies that are 7 and 8 months along, unless they have a birth defect that is incompatible with life (i.e. babies born with no brain).
I am 18 weeks pregnant and the BABY inside me is HUMAN...not a parasite...and has been since conception. Hence, she is entitled to the right to life and I should not have the option to take that fundamental right away. Anyway who would trumpet my right to choice over her right to life has some misguided moral principles!!
I find it interesting (and somewhat sad and scary) that some zealous pro-abortionists cannot even concede that unborn babies are entitled to legal protection even after they reach the point of viability.
Finally, unborn babies are viable well before 7 or 8 months. The below story speaks of a baby who was born at 21 weeks and weighed less than 10 ounces!!!! Moderator cut: Provide a link instead of copying everything here, please
Nearly all pro-lifers are that way for religious reasons. If I'm wrong, I apologize. Actually I don't know ANY pro-lifers who aren't that way for religious reasons. I'm just acknowledging the possibility that some might exist.
I am not pro-life because of religious reasons. Rather, I am because of the science underlying the origins of human life.
I know my daughter has had sex, she's 21. But I wouldn't consider her sexually active. She doesn't what to get pregnant. However, if she does get pregnant, I feel that she will take responsibility for her actions and provide the baby a good home.
As I've explained, I am neither pro-life nor pro-choice, I'm pro-rights.

No, as a rule, they are not viable, and are usually not resuscitated to paraphrase the attending neonatologist. This infant "Amillia has had respiratory problems, a very mild brain hemorrhage and some digestive problems....has been in an incubator since birth and has been receiving oxygen. She will continue getting a small amount of oxygen, and her breathing will be monitored once she leaves Baptist Children's Hospital This is NOT a normal newly born course of events.
A discussion about the pros and cons of abortion is always somewhat heated, but I am pleased we have remained civil and continue to provide our differing perspectives.
mm_mary73, especially thanks for your informed medical perspective.
A very interesting take on abortion as an industry, and one I will definitely give some more thought to in the context you raise it.
I agree with mm_mary73 that more informed consenting sexual partners using appropriate birth control decreases pregnancy, hence the slightest thought or need for an abortion diminishes.
And conversely, the introduction of technology such as ultrasound may increase abortion for some. If a mother and father are informed of severe neurological or physiologically complications, they may elect termination rather than carry to term.
It is after all about choice; good choices, informed choices and bad choices.

actually no its not about choice its about life! i know first hand many women and men who considered themselves pro choice, after seeing that first ultrasound and seeing that amazingly a fetus looks like a baby they have become staunchly anti abortion. the important thing is that no matter the reason there are fewer abortions taking place!
