The "revenge" motive is all I could think of that really made sense. Surely the Russians knew the grid would be repaired quickly.

But then, that's what the early bombing of Tokyo by Doolittle's raiders was all about. Hardly did any damage at all.

According to warnews247.gr the Ukrainian offensive on Kherson has already begun:

https://warnews247.gr/anoixan-oi-pyl...-soma-me-soma/

Note that this is a Greek website and the article is in Greek. I have translation software that translates it into English. Others may not be able to read it unless they understand Greek. I cannot find any other sources that say that this offensive has begun.

I pasted in part of the Engish translation:

Fierce fighting is taking place in Kherson with Russian forces repelling the first Ukrainian offensive in the Berislav region, inflicting casualties on Kyiv. Fighting is taking place in the areas between Pyatikhatki and Sukhanovo as well as in Pravdino, Kherson.

After fierce artillery battles, two Ukrainian infantry battalions of the 128th Mountain Brigade and one battalion of the 17th Brigade began to advance in the Novaya Kamenka – Berislav direction. Ukrainian forces number 1,000 soldiers.

Instead, Russian forces are fielding forces from the 126th Coastal Brigade and airborne forces from the 83rd, 80th and 11th Brigades.

Ukrainian motorized infantry units are actively supported by artillery and a large number of medium-range attack drones. The Russians report that at a great distance, outside the range of their air defense, they are operating a "Bayraktar" UAV.

The situation is extremely critical for the Russian forces despite the first small victory. The Ukrainians are moving all available forces from neighboring regions, their reserves and Territorial Defense units.

Russian forces have found a very large concentration of Ukrainian troops in the Kherson region and in the Nikolaev and Krivoy Rog regions, which means that it is only a matter of time before the region turns into a living hell…

The rest of the article goes back to Greek in spite of doing the entire paste, so this is the only English part that I was able to paste, deleting the Greek.

Let's see what develops.

This morning Russian occupiers dismantled the Monument to Victims of Holodomor and Political Repression in Mariupol, the city the Russians already destroyed and starved. Want to erase memories of their previous Ukrainian genocide while in the process of carrying out their current one.

Interesting video.
The word "war" is freely used, and the rhetorical question, "Why did we think Zelenskyy would run off instead of fighting?" is tossed out there.

At this point there are few informed people who believe Russia can hold on to Kherson.
The history of Kherson is interesting in that, even though it is a key city, the population peaked in 1981 at 361,000. It has gone down steadily and was at 283,000 before the war. About 50% of the population has left already.

Russia is about to lose Kherson, a prized city that was stolen by them! They can’t even fight the front line and hold their ground. But the fans keep harping on cruise missiles hitting power plants and apartments.

They kill civilians and destroy Monuments while Ukrainian defenders kill them on the battlefields. May all Russian terrorists suffer this fate.

Oh, THAT's what the "evacuation of civilians" is all about. They have suckered the civilians into leaving so that the army could mingle with them. That way the Ukrainians will have to hold their fire and the Russian army will escape.
Plenty or Russian soldiers will be killed, though. Poor suckers.
"OK, Ivan. You stay here and guard our rear, and I'll escort these civilians out of the way. I'LL BE RIGHT BACK!"
